United State of Pop 2009 - Mashup 2009 25 Top Billboard hits

United State of Pop 2009

This is a pretty impressive video edit on top of the mix.

Anyone find anything else like it similar or close?

I like DJ Earworm's stuff. What I found interesting was how few of these songs I knew or even recognized. I am so out of touch with pop music these days.

It isn't that I only listen to music from 20 years ago either, I mostly listen to new stuff... just not all that mainstream. It's interesting how the Internet can bring me new (and to my ears great) music. I don't listen to the radio anymore expect for BBC worldwide and whatever the Uncle driving my taxi has on (and here that's usually some classic easy listening stuff... I swear, radio is in time warp here).

Char, I missed a whole year of movies and music when I lived in Singapore. It was exactly like being in a time warp, yet at the same time, I got to learn about European music that I never heard in the US.

I don't think it's as bad here now as it was when you lived here. They are pretty up to date on things. Most films open day and date with the US (with exceptions). Music-wise, it's certainly getting better. It used to be that acts would rarely stop here to play... this year (and last) has seen more band rolling through that I actually want to see (and many others too as they've sold out):

Aimee Mann
Stars
Patrick Watson
Cat Power
Andrew Vincent
Of Montreal
Handsome Furs (fuck, they were awesome... best show I've seen in ages)
Nine Inch Nails
Broken Social Scene
Elvis Costello

Just off the top of my head...

Not mainstream but certainly current and actually playing here.

While I like this video and mix and all, I just have to point out the material he used kind of reflected the sad state of autotune dependence. There were like 2 maybe 3 vocals in there that I remember being even remotely natural sounding. Of course, I'm not all that familiar with pop music these days, it's entirely possible he ran these vocals samples through autotune himself to force a fit to his mix.

He autotuned most of it to get it all into the same key. Just about everyone uses autotune for either tuning or for the vocoder effect, but most isn't quite that heavily processed.

I just could not get into it due to all of the auto-tune. I am sure it took lots of work to do but I just couldn't do it.
