This is just a guess based on the only surf rock band I know to have played at the Touch and Go concert, but I'm going to say the group in question is Man...or Astro-Man? I don't know if they did stunts like that but I certainly wouldn't put it past them.

i was thinking q-bert, who coined the expression in the mid 1990s to differentiate more underground, skill-heavy dj practices from what has become mainstream. right about the time that copyright-infringement-suit happy people were driving dj practices underground. if mainstream hip-hop blows now, these lawsuits are a big reason why. go american copyright law!

I've been reading up on bassists lately, and thus I know that Spoonful was actually written by the one and only Willie Dixon.

Although he's best known for his bass skills, this man originally started out playing trumpet and had no ambitions whatsoever to join a rock band. He still plays the horn regularly now, and has appeared blowing his horn on albums for Jane's Addiction and the Mars Volta, among others.

Having lost a lung in the Korean war, I found myself unable to sing, so I focused on guitar playing. I recorded the only instrumental song to be banned from airplay on American radio during the 50's, and punched holes in the speakers of my amp doing it so it sounded more like the live version.

Who am I? (Bonus meaningless internet points if you can name the song.)

One of the better "underground" groups (Smiths, Dead Kennedys, Pogues, Psych Furs, Echo and the Bunnymen, the Cure, the Cult, Lords of the New Church, Violent Femmes, etc) of the 80's. My best friend in high school lived for that type of rock, he even named his cat Morrisey. I was 60's and 80's pop rock. I didn't appreciate that music until later in the 90's.

Yes, "You're So Vain" was the one by the female artist. Perri is right she never came out and claimed it but she has hinted in interviews.

Witchy Woman by the Eagles had a similar rumor.... being about Stevie Nicks This was false, however, there were rumors at the time that Witchy Woman was released, the song was about Linda Rondstadt.
