Really? What's the deal? She's got a few good songs, but the majority are utter crap. Now all I see is stupid teenage girls running around wearing ties and trying to dress like her.:rolleyes:

Actually, it makes me a little happy cause she keeps her breasts in her shirt, and wears pants that fit.
Not that I mind looking at half-naked pop stars, but they do tend to be role models for young girls, and well, thats not right.

She is a poser. She IS as fake as the other teen popstarts she is just not the cliche fake. At any rate I don't find her any more anoying then Britney Spears but I still rather not listen to her.

what i find interesting is that when avril was asked to announce grammy nominees, she pronounced david bowie's name wrong, and later confessed that she didn't even know who he was. arggh. stupid teen pop people.

Its just a new way of advertising the music, its a new 'package' that they put her in to make her look appealing.

I personally think her music isn't all that bad. Her publicists suck though. They're marketing her as an image rather than a musician. I think they dropped all the BS, she could possibly have staying power. She has a good voice, but doesn' t utilize it good enough. She writes good songs that stick in your head. But like many teen pop idols, she probably won't last more than 4 years max and that's a shame.

i knew some chics that dressed like that way before her
and then she came around and they were called avril wanna bes so they kinda had to drop the style
and well they looked alot better wearing that stuff
so in one way she sorta ruined a fashion

I've got to say though, as someone else said, if I had to choose between my (non-existant) daughter ending up like her or Christina Aguilera, it would be her hands-down. So, let's all just be happy there's something different out there other than Britney and Christina.

I'm not a big fan but at least she has some talent in the singing catagory which says lots more for her than Britney.Give it time though and the cycle will change and we may be bombarded with worse.Like Vanessa Carlton or something.

she has a really great voice, but thats about it. I cant stand posers. She really cant play guitar and just relies on the guitarist to play it all. theres more to being punk than dressing like one and skating.

Hey at least she co-wrote all of the songs off her album. That's more than most pop teen artists can say.

I think some of her songs are good like "Nobody's Fool" and "Things I'll Never Say." However, that being said, I've seen her perform "Complicated" live on some dumb MTV thing and she SUCKS live.

I think the appeal lies in her catchy tunes and of course, her "punk" image. While being a punk used to be ill-favored in the eyes of society, now it is widely accepted because of artists like her that soften the image's rough edges. But yeah, I think she's a poser. lol.

And Britney Spears didn't know who Yoko Ono was..... OK, BAD EXAMPLE because they're are the same scale. But hey, both are not even past the age of 23 + there teens for Christ's sake. You can't judge their intelligence yet.

Wanted to add: Not ALL of her songs are bad on her debut 'Let Go' album. I prefer: Complicated, I'm With You, Losing Grip, and Too Much To Ask - as my top choices. Its not many albums that I listen to every single song. When I dl a song (LIKE YOU DON'T), I only get singles. Great new example being "Can't Stop" by RHCPeppers. But, with 'Let Go' I listen to just about all of the songs.

People have been doing this for thousands of years.

In short, Avril Lavigne sells because:

1. She's quite attractive.

2. She has a very well-paid team of producers and hitmakers. They may say she writes her own songs, and I don't doubt that she does, but... she doesn't know shit about recording/mastering/etc. Her bosses have a lot of leeway as far as that's concerned.

3. She's a very carefully calculated product. After all the boybands and shit kinda fizzled out, record companies realized that the little girls who had bought all those CD's were now a few years older; they wanted something with a guise of 'edginess'.

4. The little girl can, in fact, sing. And her songs aren't the worst thing ever...

All this is IMHO, of course.

EDIT: I just thought of this.

I don't think I've ever once seen her claim to be punk. It's probably just more of the clever marketing, but... try not to dislike someone because they don't live up to the labels that you made for them.

I consider her genre to be more 'guitar driven' pop. I would like to say rock.... but I can't.

I got pissed when she came out talking about punk and saying she didn't need to listen to anyone who came before her.

Hey, if you care enough about music that you make it your career, would you mind learning something about it before getting packaged up and sent out into the world? Tie wearing freak.

She didn't write any of her songs either, they were ripped apart and co-written by people she's never met before.
