Your perfect concert

Let's say you get to design your own perfect show. Money's not an issue, and you can invite anyone you want... what would you do? Would it be a huge outdoor music fest with tons of bands? A small intimate setting with your favorite band of all time?

Go!

It would be enormous! Every single band I like would be there. This means it would last for months, if not years.

Everyone would be invited, as long as they contributed something to the show. You know, food and booze and stuff so we can make it through the whole show.

This would be fucking rad!

What would yours be like, Cin?

hmmm...definitely an outdoor thing. Out in the middle of nowhere, where the music could go on all night, and we could camp out. I'm thinking at least four days worth of music.

As for the bands...well, it would be quite an eccentric lineup.

Gaelic Storm
the Eagles
Fleetwood Mac
Tom Petty
Jimmy Buffett
the Electrics
Keri Noble
Saving Jane
Black Saints Cartel
Ani DiFranco
Ben Harper
Gary Allan
Nickel Creek
Def Leppard
Styx
the Hush Sound
Blackthorn
Rilo Kiley
We Are Scientists
Jill Sobule
Juliana Hatfield

...all right, I'm limiting myself to twenty-one, so each could play more than one set. I like your idea, Punk...instead of buying tickets, you'd get in on a donation of some sort.

And since it's my concert, I'd be able to get up and sing with some of the bands several times :)

Yeah...that would be awesome.

Small, intimate setting almost like a large living room. I'd invite people I know who would appreciate it.

Tom Waits
Leonard Cohen
Peter Gabriel
Sarah Mclachlan
Sigur Ros
Dead Can Dance
I'd bring Chet Baker back from the dead; maybe Tim Buckley, too
Any band that I'm currently in as well as a couple of local acts that I enjoy.

A small intimate venue, 50 to 60 people, for:

1st night:
Bob Dylan
Tom Waits
Lucinda Williams
Neil Young
encore act: Hank Williams

2nd night:
Pat Metheny
Jeff Beck
John McLaughlin
Joe Satriani
encore act: Roy Buchanan

it would be a live pa style show.

Massive Attack
Daft Punk
Crystal Method
Prodigy
Underworld
Orbital
Juno Reactor
Moby
The Streets
Chemical Brothers

n more that i'm not thinking of atm.

It'd be a two day outdoor event, wildly different on each day.

It'd be on an island, so we can be around trees and water. We'd have about 1000 people there. In between acts, people would be encouraged to go swimming and play games and talk with strangers.

Day One: Stories and Love on the Beach
The Decemberists
Hey Rosetta!
Matthew Good
Neko Case
Leonard Cohen

Day Two: Sex and Drugs in the Trees
Amanda Palmer
Metric
Holy Fuck
Queens of the Stone Age
Radiohead
Tool

Okay, I have to add Letters to Cleo to my lineup. And maybe Matthew Sweet.

I don't know nearly enough good music to make a concert of it. Ideally, though, I'd split a whole day in two - day = outdoor bands, night = outdoor DJ's.

Bands:
Coldplay
Funeral for a Friend
The Script
Keane
My Chemical Romance
Green Day

DJ's:
DJ Fresh
Euphonik
Fistaz Mixwell
Richard (plays at our local hangout)
Dennis Ferrer
Tim White
Vinny da Vinci
Kaskade

Led Zeppelin in my garage with a few close friends

Tully Mars 08-11-2009 03:33 PM

Buffett, Petty, Ray Davies and Elvis Costello on the beach.

CinnamonGirl 08-11-2009 03:51 PM

Oooh....I wanna come to Tully's concert, too.

Psycho Dad 08-11-2009 04:01 PM

I'd just like Nickelback, Seether or the like to play at my birthday party.

And I want strippers.

newtx 08-12-2009 08:12 PM

Santana, Chicago, pretty much any horn band from the 70's. Led Zeppelin, Dave Mason, (no horns) I guess I'd go for most any 70's style rock. The Allman Bros. I could go on and on.
