The Colbert Remix Challenge!
1) Stephen Colbert is really great.
2) In an episode about a month ago, he was talking with a guy named Lawrence Lessig about copyright law. The point of the interview basically being that if you remix/sample something then you've created a new piece of art. Copyright law needs to be updated to allow for this art form, without the remix artist living fear of being prosecuted. 3) Colbert put forth a challenge to his viewers to remix this interview (and whatever else) with a "pumpin' k-hole groooove!" This contest took place on Find People. Make Music. Online - Indaba Music at this location (more history/info on the contest is at the link): Colbert Remix Challenge - Indaba Music 4) Vote for me! Jesiah M.'s Colbert Remix Challenge Submission - Indaba Music My track synopsis says it all, but, basically, I made the track not only to showcase Colbert, but as an example of why copyright law needs to be updated... I only used samples. No synths or home recording. I'd love to hear input on what's wrong or right with my track... please! It's the first time I've ever made something with a "target audience" in mind, so it's not exactly exemplary of what I normally produce. But I learned a lot and will be using a lot more samples in my tracks from now on! There are some *great* other tracks in there... my favorite being one by a rapper that took the time to come up with lyrics about the contest, sampling, etc... pretty tight. anyway... vote for me! I keep teetering between 1st and 2nd! ![]() |
