Tom Waits - Big Time
I have this live CD, but I never knew it was the soundtrack to a film.
Nice. :) |
Thanks!
I remember this airing on Much Music back in the late 80s. That was when they were also airing Laurie Anderson's Home of the Brave and the Talking Head's Stop Making Sense. I recommend them as well. |
right on mixed thanks.........Tom is killer
|
That makes TWO. TWO other Tom Waits fans on TFP. Mwah-ha-ha-ha-ha!
:p |
cripes..
I thought it was a given thang. I want to hit you with a pillow. |
oh, no it's not a given thing, ms. ring. I have met people who not only don't like Tom Waits, but who hate him with a vengeance. Tends to be the same people who don't like folks like Dylan, Neil Young and Patti Smith. It's a voice thing.

*note: Martin Mull's facial expressions are priceless, the basis for a lot of comedians to come. And don't get me going on the 'stylish' leisure suits! " I live at bedlam & squalor " "I'd rather have a bottle in front of me, than a frontal lobotomy!" " I had to leave our 4 year old as collateral" EDIT: Video shows as not available, but when I go to Youtube, and search on " Tom Waits Fernwood 2nite ", or on " the piano has been drinking " I can find it fine. Or try pasting this link in your internet search: "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_0E7x3Nqys" |
Ms. Media,
Do you think it could be, the message is 'too strong to receive', right off hand, and it's easier to focus on the trebles of the voice thing? I wonder. |

the epitome of a soul resonating he is

Leto, I so wish I could have watched that clip. It's not available. But thank you for trying. I, too, am a fan of the Martin Mull.
ring, you could have a point. I think it comes down to what you are looking for when you listen to music. Do you want it to accent your life and make you feel happy or do you want to absorb and inhabit what the artists are creating. Same goes with the visual arts, literature, etc., etc. Personally, I like beautiful voices and less perfect, soulful voices. I love it all! ratbastid, werd. |
He's the only musical act (solo or group) that I've seen in Memphis that could keep the crowd completely, silently enthralled the entire time he performed.
I've seen lots of shows in various venues here and the crowd is always loud and obnoxious. I've even been to special invitation-only events for a few shows and the crowd is still loud and obnoxious (Cat Power was particularly bad; they were trying to film the show for VH1 and couldn't use any of it). Not comparing Cat Power to Tom Waits--I'm illustrating a point about how bad the audiences can be here. Tom Waits held the audience in the palm of his fucking hand ... he was and still is brilliant. |
Tom Waits is just incredible. I can't even say anything else. Just incredible.
|
I just thought to look this film up on Amazon and it has not been released on DVD. Any ideas why?
|
fuck it..........
"i don't wanna grow up" |
You may not know this but, "I am BIG in Japan."
|
|
haha! exzellent. I can't decide whether the world is woefully short-handed when it comes to Tom Waitses or if it's best to have just the one.

QUOTE] don't know why it doesn't work from TFP, if you go into youtube and search on Tom Waits Fernwood 2nite or on the Piano has been drinking, you can find it and it works. I pasted the link only in my post above... Maybe something to do with TFP being an American site, but I am watching Youtube Canada?? |
