Stevie Wonder
 

Hey there folks. I was a kid in the 70's, and as I have functional ears, I could not evade knowing a bit of Stevie Wonder, however, the way my musical taste developed, it has taken me three decades to really become interested in adding his music to my collection.

Seems to me, I need to get the 5 classics: Music of my Mind, Talking Book, Innervisions, Fullfillingness' First Finale, and Songs in the Key of Life, and then Hotter than July (Because one must have Master Blaster).

Is there anything else here that I really need to check out?

I have been a Stevie Wonder fan for years. Fullfillingness' First Finale is his best work for my taste as well as one of my all time favorite albums . Stevie pioneered the funk/rock sound back in the day.

Four great Stevie Wonder albums! A lot of people have never heard the extended version of Livin' For The City.

Gotta say what an amazing musician this guy is. I saw a vid of younger Stevie doing a drum solo, and it was pretty good. I don't think you'll be disappointed with anything of his.

Signed, Sealed and Delivered is a great album, too, although it is more pop-ish than his later 70's albums. Still it is great music. I love Stevie Wonder! Innervisions is my favorite album.

SSD is probably one to get then. I'm not a big fan of Pop music, but the missus is.

I saw linked from Fark a vid of Stevie covering "Papa was a Rolling Stone" with the whosamawhatchit - squawk box?, the thing Frampton uses on DYFLWD - back when he was skinny and had an afro that doubled his head size. It was awesome. Any idea where one can find a recording of that?

well, to clarify, it's late '60s soul pop...not like his 80s, 90s pop...which is hit or miss...mostly miss, unfortunately.

No, I understand. That was before he had the chops to tell Barry Gordy to go piss up a rope, so he had to play the MoTown product. That he was well enoug skilled at this that he could eventually dictate his terms is reason enough to check out some of his earlier work, ans SSD sounds like the one to go with.
