The Album Challenge
I decided to challenge myself to start listening to more full albums that I have never heard in their entirety or at all for that matter. I feel like in this new 'iTunes Store' age it's pretty easy to get hooked on to downloading single tracks and etc. so I'm actively trying to curb myself from that, and to start listening to a full album instead of sitting and hitting single after single. So if any of you want to join me this can be our little challenge area.
My first up: Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot I've heard Wilco before, but I've never taken the plunge on a full album, so since this is the most regaled one I've heard of... here we go! Review later when I wake up.

Well, you've started strong. YHF is in my opinion the best complete album since Sergeant Pepper's. MAAAAAYBE The Bends comes close. Maaaaybe.
You've got to get through "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart", though. Tweedy put that as the first track to scare off the weak-of-heart. There are MUCH more accessible tracks beyond that one. "Kamera" and "Jesus, Etc." are two of my favorite songs of all time. |

Next up: Belle & Sebastian The Boy With The Arab Strap --------------------- This album was decent, however, I found myself not listening to it really. The soft vocal kind of makes me stray from the sound, and I think I may need another listen to fully appreciate what is going on. I like the ambiance, but it was kind of to the point where I didn't really notice that I was listening to anything, so maybe I do need another listen to find the direction in the music. Next: Blur Parklife ---------------------- This album started well enough, pretty peppy and I enjoyed it alot, especially after a change from Belle & Sebastian. But the end of the album kind of lost me, since it got set into a more downtrodden tempo, and didn't really have the ability to grab me like the beginning of the album did. I think I'll put it on shuffle for awhile, because I'm trying to get some work done so hopefully more soon.

Interestingly enough, Just downloaded the Henry Mancini orchestra last night... took the whole album for kicks. Been playing it since. It's the one with the Pink Panther on it.

I have never been one to listen to singles. If I don't like the whole album it doesn't stay in my collection. My music folder on my work computer has about 275 albums on it from 50 different bands. Sometimes I'll try putting my media player on random but that is atypical.

hmmm well maybe I should try this too, though I'm the opposite of kutulu there.
I don't see the point of listening to full albums over and over again...there are very few bands where I enjoy all their songs. I like random, I like mixing it up. That's why often I don't buy full albums, can't remember the last one I bought!
