MTV SPANKS FOO FIGHTERS FOR DRAG VIDEO THAT GOES TOO LOW

June 28, 2003 -- MTV won't be airing the Foo Fighters' new video for their song "Low" because it is apparently too risque.
The video features actor Jack Black and lead singer Dave Grohl prancing around in women's clothes, according to the website Launch.com.

In one scene, Black dons a curly black wig, pink bikini top and shorts, while Grohl is seen wearing a blonde wig and putting on lipstick.

"The video is not being played by MTV because of two controversial scenes," Launch.com reported yesterday, "one depicting the two dressed in drag spanking each other, and one in which Grohl and Black's legs are horizontal on the floor, intermingling with each other, implying a sex scene."

It is rare for MTV to ban a video outright. Usually it will tell performers what it objects to in a video so that it can be re-edited.

Before finding out that MTV has refused to air their video, the Foo Fighters already announced that they are releasing a DVD containing the footage for "Low" next week. Apparently the group thought that because fans could see it on DVD, they wouldn't re-edit the video.

Slims 07-02-2003 01:27 AM

I don't blame MTV, I feel worse for having watched this, let alone seeing it over and over...

Nyenrodian 07-02-2003 02:57 AM

They actually ban videos? WTF. This video wasn't even "risquee" it was just plain boring.

Personally I found the Robbie Williams video Come Undone a lot more risky than this and they didn't ban that one.

Slims 07-02-2003 04:16 AM

Well, they are supposed to be Music Television, and I think the censoring stupid videos should happen more often. Maybe MTV would be worth watching again.

Nyenrodian 07-02-2003 04:24 AM

Censoring should NEVER happen. If the song wouldn't be played because it sucks I would say fine.

But because of the video that is considered 'not done' is the worst reason ever. This video isn't even provocative.

Derwood 07-02-2003 05:48 AM

MTV plays videos? Oh right, that's what MTV2 is for. What? MTV2 just plays Hip-Hop 23 hours a day? Then where do I see rock videos? MTVX! What? MTVX is now MTV hits (ie more Hip-Hop videos)?

I wish I had Much-music....

shag112 07-02-2003 05:54 AM

I've seen much worse than this!
I thought it was hilarious..stupid funny, but funny!

Hardly worth banning...excellent song too.

zfleebin 07-02-2003 08:01 AM

Wow I think i just lost some respect for Jack. That was a real sad attempt at a video. I never did like the foo fighters but now I think Im justified.

rockzilla 07-02-2003 10:48 AM

It wasn't a terribly good video, certainly not Jack Black's finest hour, and not even the best use of drag in a Foo Fighters video (everlong). MTV should worry more about how music videos portray actual women before they start censoring harmless idiocy.

Besides, nobody would have a problem with the video if instead of Dave Grohl spanking Jack Black, they had Britney Spears spanking Anna Kournikova. If you don't want to watch a fat man in panties, then don't. But calling this video too 'risque' when a Christina Aguilera video looks like a gynecological exam is just ridiculous.

porkpie 07-02-2003 12:10 PM

Censorship is wrong, I like the video, and the song.
It is far less sexual than anything put out by Aguilera, BUT it involves two men. And that is Verboten!
I don't even get MTV, it was just such a treat seeing a video.
Thanks!

Charlatan 07-02-2003 01:26 PM

Two men + sexual innuendo = banned from MTV (My God! What if there are children watching?)

woolley bear 07-02-2003 07:32 PM

Jack Black is scary anyway him in a thong and pink mini is just wrong.... shouldn't ban it though thats what the on off switch on tvs is for

bondagegirl 07-02-2003 08:07 PM

HAHAHA that was fuckin hilarious, stupidly funny, but funny either way. I'm sorry but everytime I see a foo fighters video, I can't stop drooling over dave grohl. EVERYTIME! He's just so damn hot. I love that tattoo he's got on his chest. OK sorry I had to get that out. Oh man what I wouldn't do to meet him... (did I say that outloud?) oops

Are you serious???

My God! Do you really think these kids are more protected by banning a stupid ass video?

juanvaldes 07-03-2003 12:36 AM

As if I thought MTV get do anything stupider.....they do this.

emopwr 07-04-2003 11:32 AM

what a strange video. i wish i were rich like grohl and black so i could sit around all day and do stupid shit like this.

Glory's Sun 07-04-2003 01:53 PM

I think that was the single most retarded thing I've seen in my life.. The video wasn't risque or controversial it was boring.

m0j0 07-05-2003 02:24 AM

Wonder how much they spent on this music video.

rogue49 07-05-2003 04:18 AM

All I can say is, thank god we have women around to wear that stuff,
because men do not cut it in the looks department.

But then again, maybe I'm biased.;)

asudevil83 07-08-2003 02:38 PM

although that video was a little on the weird side, i've seen worse on MTV. just about everything on Jackass outdoes that video 10 fold. hell, i've seen a shitload of music videos that are more disturbing....Marylyne Manson (sp) anyone or Tool. although their videos are more on the artistic side, they depict some crazy shit.

IMO, their was no reason to ban that video. it broke no rules, although it wasnt a good video.

slunk007 07-09-2003 08:49 PM

What about 50 Cent shooting guns in a video? There was nothing harmful here. Drag Queens don't kill people, Drag Queens shooting guns kill people.

It doesn't matter if it was a good video or a bad one. It was a bad one btw, but that doesn't matter. MTV/MuchMusic play awful videos everyday. I'm tired of seeing a bunch of people dancing in a club or driving cars in videos.

IMO I think this video actually sends a good message to kids out there. If you drink, this is the stupid result. I would rather have my child watch this than a 50 Cent video.

Nope, I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic!

CSflim 07-11-2003 12:46 PM

This video rocks! I don't have MTV anyway, so i don't give a shit about them banning it.

Yep have to agree. It is not a good song or video, but compared to what else MTV shows this is harmless.

By the way having Britney spanking Anna would be an excellent video. What a nice image, I think I'm going to have to go to my bedroom now....

Sion 07-11-2003 11:02 PM

wtg phred for finding this and bringing it to us.

as to the video: as already mentioned, its just a bunch of idiocy, nothing even remotely dangerous or overtly risque. btw, is Jack Black the most fearless musician/comic/actor/performer/whateverthefuckheis out there or what?
think about everything he has done. there is nothing he wont do to get a reaction. he cracks me up.

stupid video, pretty good song though. maybe Foo Fighters are ok after all...

agreed.

and if they banned this, why didn't they ban dirrty? jesus christ.

Sen 07-16-2003 08:44 AM

Exactly. Dirrty was much more risque. If anyone thinks that Dave Grohl and Jack Black in drag is sexy, then they have other issues.

Video aside, JB and Dave Grohl are comic as well as musical geniuses. :suave:

jwoody 07-17-2003 04:19 AM

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but MTV seem to have 'banned' a couple of lame videos recently (Crapstina Gorilla) for being too risque, while at the same time playing far more shocking videos daily.

I ain't buying all this bullshit. It's just a way of getting some publicity for a song before it is released, if you ask me.

Take this thread for example.

MikeyChalupa 07-17-2003 06:10 AM

Just remember folks, there's no such thing as "bad publicity", for the Foo Fighters, Jack Black, or MTV.
