Help!

I've come to you, Titled Music, when I need you most! You've been reliable before, so I know you won't let me down. Well, with Valentine's Day lurking over the horizon, I am embarking on a 'mix tape' type of playlist. However, this isn't your usual crappy love song fest. I'm making this CD for my ex-girlfriend, and the average love song isn't going to cut it. Long story short, I screwed up pretty big. So what I need is songs that are more of 'apologies' if you catch my drift. Also important to note that she didn't leave me, I left her, so anything like "Baby Come Back!" isn't going to work. Which is why I'm finding myself in a predicament.

I've been trying to get different, this isn't a conventional Valentine's CD, I've been treating it as more applicable to non-valentines so it won't have that ham 'n cheese effect. I think a good example of a song I already have in here is "Trouble" by Coldplay or "Work it Out" by Jurassic 5.

I am hopeful to see what you guys can come up with, and I'll be ever grateful!

Derwood 02-02-2009 10:52 AM

so do you want songs that are apologetic? or do you want songs that are simply NOT "baby come back" types?

SSJTWIZTA 02-02-2009 10:58 AM

johnny thunders and the Heartbreakers- I Love You

the bouncing souls- say anything

bent outta shape- solitary now, stick around

baby shambles-fuck forever

hex dispensers- my love is a bat

if stuff doesnt work out...send her "dont ask why" by the replacements.

i'll think of more after i sleep well. ive been awake quite awhile and my brains working at about 5%

MacGuyver 02-02-2009 11:44 AM

I'll take any ideas at this point, the more apologetic the better.

Willravel 02-02-2009 11:56 AM

What are a few of her favorite songs? Obviously you'll want to tailor this to her particular tastes.

dippin 02-02-2009 12:03 PM

Well, John Lennon's "Jealous Guy" is a classic.

Well, she loves Bowie. I put "Let Me Lay Beside You" as my Bowie track for her, I don't think she's heard it. Also she had some group that did a cover of "Lay Lady, Lay" by Dylan, so I put the original on there. Her favorite band is Mates of State. Honestly as far as genres go, I wouldn't put much of a limit. I've tried to get her into more good hip hop, as I like some hip hop that gives out a smoother ambient beats (ie. A Tribe Called Quest, etc.) The vibe of the CD should be pretty easy going. I definitely have some rock on there, I'm just avoiding some stuff that may be too strong of a sound. I'm going to check out some of the tracks you guys have put down right now and I'll give you some more updates! Thanks a ton for contributing to my depressing make up attempts. I appreciate this more than you guys know. I'm sure I'll find some nuggets in what you're putting out there that there's no way I wouldn't have known about at all [thats why I love you all].

Actually, I found an acoustic version on youtube slowed down when I searched for this, and it's GREAT! It was a live studio acoustic thing, so hopefully I can find an mp3 of it slowed down like it is on the video. Maybe if worse comes to worse I can record it off the video but it will probably sound bad that way.

This is a great list! I picked a bunch from out of here. I'm so glad I asked here, because you picked a lot stuff that I hadn't thought of, but have definitely heard. John Mayer is big in my book and I'm probably going to throw in "Comfortable"

1) Was on youtube with a soap clip, and I'm sorry to admit this but that was like swallowing a friggin brick, it hit a little too close to home. (Actually thats false, I was listening/watching Bitter the song not the album, though I assume its from the same album.)

Also, I'm loving this automerge thing. It's AWESOME.

Scorps 02-03-2009 10:30 AM

I say scrap the CD idea and go talk to her.

MacGuyver 02-03-2009 11:05 AM

I do talk to her. I talk to her on a regular basis. I'm trying to do something nice here, so that'd be why I'm making her some music to listen to. No need to take it to a personal level, since that is not the intention of this thread. Unless you have some tracks to contribute? Thanks.

Glory's Sun 02-04-2009 07:42 AM

Led Zeppelin- Fool In The Rain
Dave Matthews-Break Free
Something Corporate- Konstantine

..and pretty much anything by journey..

Scorps 02-04-2009 10:20 AM

I misread that then sorry

telekinetic 02-04-2009 10:36 AM

Deceptive title, thread lacks paperclip and cleaning supply IEDs. Would not read again.

Good luck, though! I have nothing to contribute other than Sorry by Buckcherry, which may be overly literal.

Quote:

I'm sorry I'm bad, I'm sorry you're blue, I'm sorry about all the things I said to you
And I know I can't take it back
I love how you kiss, I love all your sounds, and baby the way you make my world go round
And I just wanted to say I'm sorry:
[...]
Every single day I think about how we came all this way
The sleepless nights and the tears you cried it's never too late to make it right
Oh yeah I'm sorry!

incidental asside: I always chuckle at this song, since I picture it being written to his girlfriend to apologize for Crazy Bitch.

MacGuyver 02-04-2009 11:49 AM

Sorry guys. I figured that by posting in Tilted Music the focus would go to the Music aspect of the problem. To make it clear, I'm not looking for relationship help, otherwise this would be in general discussion or somewhere else. This thread is about me finding tracks for a disc.

Redlemon 02-04-2009 12:04 PM

"Title of the Song" by Da Vinci's Notebook. It's very meta, and yet appropriate to your situtation. The refrain:

"Title of the song
Naive expression of love
Reluctance to accept that you are gone
Request to turn back time
And rectify my wrongs...
Repetition of the title of the song"

Why is that reply after mine? I suggested an appropriate track and provided lyrics in case you were unfamiliar, but said with a caveat that it may be too literal?

ironpham 02-04-2009 12:21 PM

We Can Work It Out - the Beatles?

I'm not sure how well this applies to your situation, but I think it sounds like an apologetic song.

Sorry, I wasn't poking at you at all. There are just some who may think this was about my relationship when it is not. End of story. Though I did think it was funny that you found the Buckcherry song an apology for 'Crazy Bitch' !

Wow, that is a really interesting format to write the song in! Almost makes the situation seem really stereotypical.

Your Guardian Angel - Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

is the vid link..

I dont know how main stream it is now.. I thought it was pretty good.

creepysusie 02-04-2009 06:01 PM

Your Ex-Lover is Dead - Stars
Take me to the riot - Stars
California - Sarah Slean
Get Home - Sarah Slean
Your wish is my wish - Sarah Slean
Star Witness - Neko Case
Please Call me baby - Tom Waits
Nothing Better - The Postal Service
Give it a night (we'll work it out) - Bella

Anyone Else, but you - The Moldy Peaches (this would be a really nice song to end on. It is not too desperate but has a light note on the end)

Good Luck

Plan9 02-04-2009 06:04 PM

Oh, I don't know... the Florida-based 38 Special band made a lot of "baby come back" hits.

That and it's MacGyver. How many times have we seen the exploding intro screen?

That was taken at the time. Pretty sure the real spelling account has been deleted since though. Wonder if I can change it?

EDIT: I am incorrect, it hasn't been deleted but they were in there since 4/03, before I was here.

I'm just funnin' ya. I'm silly because I'm the only Crompsin in the universe.

Actually, in second look, this song is great. Well, I wouldn't call it a great song, because I've heard it before and I don't really like Buckcherry at all, but the lyrics are on point as far as pertaining to the subject.
