Warning Labels/Radio Edits are biased.

Why is it that you see warning labels on every Heavy Metal and Hip-Hop album, but not on any classic rock or pop rock albums? Why are some songs censored and others aren't?

Here are some examples of songs that don't get the label:

REM - Star me Kitten - Actual lyrics of song are "Fuck me Kitten"

Pink Floyd - Money - They say Bullshit, and it's not even bleeped out on the radio

Dire Straits - Money for Nothing - Say Faggot repeatedly in one verse.

Just a few examples. Eminem gets beeped for goddamit or ass, but Pink Floyd gets away with Bullshit? How is that fair?

Depends on the station.

Most lables release edited versions to the station and they play it. Some stations, with balls, choose to play the unedited versions.

For the most part stations play what is sent to them.

Any underground label doesn't even have those stickers. NoFX's Pump up the Valuum had no explicit lyrics sticker, and their lyrics are enough to make Frank Zappa blush...

"She gotta walk with a silicone cock
Sticking in her ass, and one in her cunt
A butterfly vibrator strapped tight to her clit
But who's got the remote control?"

How's that not explicit

The warning label is optional. It depends on the publisher of the album whether it should go on there. Besides, the Warning Label acts as a badge of some sort. Most Urban acts would not be caught dead without one because they would lose their street credibility for being 'soft'. Likewise, you wouldn't buy a Barry Manilow album if it had a Warning Label on it, because his core audience would not purchase anything that is "too explicit". Its all a matter of taste, and just a another way (thanks Tipper Gore) for the gov't to get involved in things that they shouldn't be playing around with.

Well, it also biases stores like Wal Mart against some music, but not others.
