Pandora Radio
Most recent thread was about a year old, so rather than necro it I figured I should start fresh.
I just started listening here again. What are some seeds that yield great results? Terrible ones? I generally like to listen to stuff that's like Radio Disney :shy:. I never was a pop rock fan back in elementary school, but now that I'm in college I flipping love what's aimed at just under my age group. The SO got me into it ^^. I used to listen to classic rock and all sorts of 'cool' stuff, but I find that it doesn't interest me as much as what they have on their station anymore <.< |
I usually start with a band name, not a song title. I've not had any luck with stations named after song titles because it seems to play many different genres whereas a band name will kinda stick to the genre. I rate a ton of songs at first. This narrows down the playlist. After that I quit rating the songs. If the playlist starts feeling a limited, thumbs up a few songs and it'll start to broaden the playlist and you'll start hearing fresh stuff again. Best advise would just be don't get carried away with ratings. If you thumbs up too much you'll be hearing ever song ever made on one station and if you thumbs down too much you'll be hearing your soon-to-be-ex-favorite band every 10 minutes.

Here I thought the rating system would be like Netflix and would get better the more you rate. How very very wrong I was and how very quickly my awesome playlist turned awful.
|
They should have an option to 'undo' or 'save a copy' of my playlist. I think I'll stick with the songs I already have rated then.
|
You can go back and undothings you've given thumbs up or thumbs down. If you're liking the current playlist, don't keep rating things.

Snoop Dogg radio.
The Flashbulb radio. very different. both yield extremely good results =) |
Jack Johnson radio when I'm working or chilling out.
311 radio when I want something more up beat Beastie Boys radio or Armin van Buuren radio at the gym. Pandora is the bomb. I just would like less John Mayer. |
Then thumbs down john mayer =o

I don't have much experience with the rating system on Pandora, though it is nearing a year since I first got (pig, Esoteric advocated me) into it. I like my music as I like my personality: controlled randomess.

I tried to the best of my ability to be true to my own interpretation of sound, and this is what I came up with: Songstreams by Jet I am also broadening upon the genre of Hip-Hop currently on the shared stations of a friend, amalgamized into an encompassing playlist that seeks to provide maximum content. I just combined three stations into one, building upon the ratings and continual listenings of the creator, and creating a resurrected shared sound recommended by another to be enjoyed by myself as well. Perhaps you can do the same with my station, though you may have to unseed some of the dozen or so artists within it to find your preferred music experience. :surprised: |
Mad World Radio
Space Hog Radio Weezer Radio Death Cab for Cutie Radio Of course, these are my tastes. I plug a bunch of my favorite songs in as seperate stations, and then just keep it on quick mix. After a couple thumbs up/down for each station it pretty much nails my tastes. |
Chess Club radio.
:) |
DJ Shadow Radio (DJ Shadow/Orbital/Nine Inch Nails)
Rhymesayers (Atmosphere/Brother Ali/Eyedea & Abilities/Cannibal Ox) Hip Hop of N.Y. (Nas/Papoose/Wu-Tang Clan/The Notorious B.I.G.) RATM/SoaD/Tool/RHCP (Self-explanatory) Reggae (Bob Marley/Damian Marley/Peter Tosh/Dennis Brown/Burning Spear) Def Roots (Mos Def/The Roots/Goodie Mob/Lupe Fiasco/OutKast/A Tribe Called Quest) |

I can put up with Pandora for a few days, but I always end up frustrated. The best results I have had are with a very carefully managed Bob Dylan station - if I don't micromanage it, it will get out of hand, though. My Norah Jones radio station is good for work and it has turned me onto a fair amount of good music, but it is very female-centric. That irks me. I've pretty much come to the conclusion that no one, not even statistics and logarithms, can explain my taste in music. |
