I wouldn't call this a compilation, but the best love song I know is:
"Without you" by Harry Nilsson(sp)

The Beach Boys "Gog Only Knows"
The most realistic love song EVER written. I may not always love you But as long as there are stars above you There'll be no need to doubt it I'll make you so sure about it. God only knows what I'd be with you. If you should ever leave me Though life would still go on, believe me The world could show nothing to me So what good would living do me? God only knows what I'd be without you.

no one has mentioned:
0) Smoke Gets in Your Eyes - The Platters 1) A large portion of the songs that Big Crosby made famous 2) Darling Je Vous Aime Beacoup - Nat Cole is my favourite version 3) More than a few Sinatra songs 4) Bei mir bist du shoen - Andrew Sisters and I could name many more with a bit of thought from the 1910-1950 range. |

The song "Lovesong" by the Cure. Not only is love song in the title, but the lyrics are just something to behold. They just speak of such love. Robert Smith even wrote the song as a wedding present to his wife, as he said "Yeah, it was cause me 'n' Mary got married last year and I couldn't think of what to give her, for a wedding present (laughs), so I wrote her that song... cheap and cheerful... she would've preferred diamonds, I think, but... I dunno... she might look back and be glad that I gave her that. "

Cowboy Junkies: To love is to Bury
Bono: Can't Help Falling in love with You Waterboys: A man is in love "To love is to bury" is by far the most beautiful song about love that i know. The Bono cover of "Can't Help Falling in love with You", might be a tad controversial but damn it is beautiful too... "A man is in love" is a simple catchy little song with a nice, if predictable, punchline... If "To love is to bury" is a "downer", then "A man is in love" is a definate "upper" |

Everlong, of course.
"And so it goes" by billy joel, more a song about remorse in love, but it's still utterly beautiful "The way you look tonight" by Frank Sinatra, it's romantic and moving with slipping into a kind of sappiness. "Sarah Brown Eyes" from the musical Ragtime, i know, not the kind of music we're really talking about, but still one hell of a love song there are more, but none are coming

A lot of you people are NOT putting love songs you're putting songs of love lost (You've lost that loving feeling) soft songs that aren't really loves songs (2 out 3 ain't bad) songs that say "Lets make love" but aren't love songs (Lets Get It On) and some are just ridiculous. Okay lemme think of some you haven't mentioned
Nazareth - Love Hurts Santa Esmeralda - You're My Everything Journey - Send Her My Love Richard Marx - Right Here Waiting Art Garfunkle - I Only Have Eyes For You Don Mclean - And I love you so (I like his version) Jim Croce - I have to say I love you in a song, Time In a bottle Boz Scaggs - We're All Alone Bread - If, Sweet Surrender, Lost Without Your Love Fleatwood Mac - As Long As You Follow Carpenters - For All We Know America - I need you Joe Cocker - You Are So Beautiful Aaron Neville & Linda Rondstat - I don't know much, but I know I love you Elton John - The One, Something About The Way You Look Tonight Bette Middler - Wind Beneath My Wings Now those are actual LOVE songs. Theres a shit load more though. Think people! Asta!!
