How much music do you have on your comp?
With the RIAA threatning people with large fines, I think it might be amusing to determine how much music some of our members have on their comps.
I'll start it off by saying I have a meager 650+ a few, for a total just over 6 gigs. |

I've got about 7500 songs in mp3 format - probably about 6000 of them have been ripped from CDs I own. I'm very rarely on the PTP networks anyway.. I tend to just download a single album as a "preview" - if I like it, I always try to buy the CD. Ironically for me the p2p networks have actually ensured I buy MORE CDs as I can test drive more songs.

I only have about 140 songs in MP3 format. Most of them are live performances, covers, and other stuff I hadn't heard before previewing it on p2p.
I've probably only purchased 20 CDs my whole life, 15 of them were because I liked what I heard on Mp3

67.3 gigs on the mp3 HDD.
that, loaded into WinAMP, is - Files : 13985 Total Length : 1082 hours 6 minutes 3 seconds mostly full proper albums btw. and there's about 20 gigs mp3's elsewhere, either on my PC or on DVD-RAM. (ps) and well over 100 purchased Audio CDs too, btw. so it's not just mp3's.

Approx 6 gigs. Most of it one time listens or never listened to. I'll download a full cd listen to it once maybe twice make a decision of if its worth buying or not and then never end up deleting the songs out of laziness.

I have 852 songs on my hard drive. Mostly one-hit wonders, I really didn't need the whole Starland Vocal Band album, and if I had bought it, how much money do you think the orginal writers and performers of the song would get? None. Friggin' lawyers and industry asshats? Plenty.
I also own almost 500 CDs, which I love. |

I burn them and you just can't beat having an mp3 CD player in your car. 180+ songs on one CD. I've got 5000 songs on less than 40 discs. Its great. If you drive a lot and can afford it I recommend getting one to any lover of music.

actually it's kinda of funny, I've downloaded less music since getting broadband as opposed to my 56K days. But anyways I have 415 songs, 1.69 GB, so I'm a lightweight compared to some of you guys.

I have 13.7 gig. I have my hard drive partitioned and have one partition just for my music. I have tons of live music and all of the cd's I've bought in about the last month on there.
Right now I have 36 different Pink Floyd shows on my hd along with a few Metallica shows I dl'd from the MetVault from the new album. |

I have seven full albums, all of which I own. Don't listen to music on the PC much so haven't bothered to rip many.
Aside from the moral factor I would sooner spend a little money on a CD than go through the hassle involved in downloading music. Edited - I can't count. Last edited by Wombat; 07-01-2003 at 03:18 AM.. |

I'm fed up with downloading. I get too many incorrectly titled files and poor quality files. I know there are ways of getting around that, but I'd rather spend the money on the CD these days. I download a couple songs here and there to see what I want to buy. I backup every CD I own.

Not much, I only store them until I burn them. Once they're burned I get ridda dem. Usually I have roughly 50-100mb at most at any given time. In other words, my pc is more of a music port than music device.

40GB in 2700 files
After Napster I started buying CD's at 6 times the rate at which i had before. I'm at about 1 per month now, as opposed to 2 per year. All of the ones I've bought since have been stuff I've found through file sharing. |

About 9 gigs worth on my server.
Plus, over 250 cds about 100 cassettes 150-200 albums (vinyl for you young folk) and several 45s. Kind of a music freak. The collection stems from jazz to metal to country to comedy and beyond. BTW, the vinyl collection includes 96% of the entire KISS collection, including imports. There's only a few that I don't own on vinyl.
