DW drums

Does anybody use DW drums? what do you think of them sound wise as compared to Pearl or Yamaha? I like the theory of their construction but not sure if they're worth the price. any insights?

I've been playing for...14 years now, and I very nearly bought a DW. Then I played a Tama Starclassic. I got that instead. Tama bass drums sound HUGE, and record very well.

The DW's are great drums, don't get me wrong...but the DW didn't sound 3 times better than the Starclassic I wound up getting, and it was 3 times more expensive.

If you go to look at Starclassics, IMHO, look at the maple only. I personally dislike the sound of the birch "performer" series.

One other nice thing about the Starclassics...since they sound bigger than they are, you can get smaller drums, which is easier on your back. I have a 10", 12", 14", 16" toms with a 20" kick. LOVE IT!

they,re pretty damn expensive....good for the studio but live is a diff story.

gotta mike the hell outta them.

mpedrummer is right...go for the maple in whatever set you decide to buy.

i'm a die hard pearl fan....so i've got an export series and a world series in my jamroom and i swear by them both.

good luck
