The Album Recommendation Thread
I've been throwing a bunch of albums at a new guy in chat who wants to expand his listening library and I thought it'd make a good thread.
I don't think I need to explain how this works. My recs so far: Frank Zappa - Weasels Ripped My Flesh Frank Zappa - You Are What You Is They Might Be Giants - Apollo 18 They Might Be Giants - Factory Showroom They Might Be Giants - Flood The Allman Brothers - Live At Fillmore East The Allman Brothers - Eat A Peach C'mon people, let's have 'em.

My top 5 favorite (I watched a lot of High Fidelity!):
1. NOFX- Heavy Petting Zoo 2. Dead Kennedys- Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables 3. The Descendents- Milo Goes to College 4. Against Me!- As the Eternal Cowboy 5. Black Flag- Jealous Again Of course, if you're not into punk, these albums are not for you. If you're well versed in punk, you've probably heard all these. By the way, I love this thread idea Martian.

Instead of listing off a bunch of albums no one will listen to, I'll do this:
...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - Wasted state Of Mind Fucking brilliant. If you like the song then download their album "So Divided."

A propos of this thread, I have a very large music collection, and consequently find that there are things in there that I have ignored or overlooked since I first bought them.
I recently purchased a great book: The Mojo Collection: The Ultimate Music Companion It goes through the last 50 years, chronologically and pics the best albums from each year, gives a 1 page summary of the key points about the record and a short review. It's a great read, and fun to dip into. As I read through it, I was gratified to find that from its ~850 pages I had about half of the records it recommends, which got me to thinking. So last week, I added every album it recommends which I own a copy of to a play-list on my iPod. It's really rather good.

Not only that, the Bedouin Soundclash all attended (& met) at Queen's University in Kingston. Much later than the Tragically Hip, who also met and attended Queen's. At least I was around for that. Kingston is a small town where kids are brought together, often living away from home for the first time, and can generate some unique and lasting dynamics on their own with a fairly cosmopolitan and international admixture of cultures to draw upon.
