Led Zeppelin or Rolling Stones

I've been having this on-going argument with my girlfriend over who the better band was. I say Led Zeppelin. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE The Rolling Stones, I just think Zeppelin was better.

What do y'all think?

rogue49 06-26-2003 05:15 AM

Led Zeppelin all the way.

Not only was their music kick-ass and before their time,
but it has influenced music way more than the Stones.

Conclamo Ludus 06-26-2003 08:20 AM

Don't forget the Stones had a good influence on Led Zeppelin too. They are both incredible bands. Zeppelin's influence is more apparent in modern music, since Blues/Rock isn't all that prevalent compared to Hard Rock. Don't get me wrong they were both Blues/Rock but Zeppelin was defenitely pushing into Heavy Metal. The Stones kept more to their blues/rock roots and continue to do so.

Top 3 English bands to me:

Led Zeppelin
Rolling Stones
The Animals

In that order.

Glory's Sun 06-26-2003 09:48 AM

Led Zeppelin--- that's an easy decision.

A side note.. the beatles broke up over 20 years ago and still sell more records than the Stones

ok so I hate the Rolling Stones.. I'm biased.. big deal :p

warrrreagl 06-26-2003 10:02 AM

Led Zeppelin.

The Stones were a much better band (musically) before they hit it big and were still playing blues. They spent the remainder of their time in the 60's playing catch-up to The Beatles.

Zeppelin was a much more original band.

Gortexfogg 06-26-2003 10:02 AM

Led Zepplin gets my vote. The Stones are great, but not too much variety in their music. Zepplin, however, is great stuff that doesn't always sound the same

jyearwoo 06-26-2003 11:03 AM

Zeppelin. I think the stones are over-rated

unassumed 06-26-2003 12:42 PM

Led Zep man, don't get me wrong, I love both of em', but Led Zep had it all. All four parts of the band were all brilliant. I mean, who can name the drummer or the bass player for the Stones off the top of their head? Maybe I should know better but I can't.

modest 06-26-2003 01:48 PM

Zepplin. - a unique band of past present and future...no questions.

homerhop 06-26-2003 02:40 PM

Led Zep all the way.

kajagoogoo 06-27-2003 04:16 PM

Zeppelin dooooood ;)

BulletBob 06-27-2003 09:24 PM

Zeppelin, for reasons already mentioned

h2ogo69 06-28-2003 07:21 AM

zeppelin \m/

Fly 06-28-2003 09:56 AM

LED FUCKING ZEPPELIN BABY

*easy decision*

urgodhere 06-28-2003 11:42 AM

Zeppelin rules over all!!!

boredjerk 06-28-2003 11:53 AM

Rolling Stones. Robert Plant is annoying. And John Bonham is dead. 10 years ago I would've chosen differently.

mercury-hg 06-28-2003 12:07 PM

Zep, not that they need another vote to trounce the Stones in this poll ;-)

MVmfinP 06-28-2003 10:55 PM

I hate to jump on the bandwagon, but Zep. I love the Stones, but Zep were Rock and Roll.

Tom Thumb 06-28-2003 11:35 PM

Zeppelin. Two reasons:

1. The Stones were a singles band (admit it!). Every Zeppelin album is great all the way through.

2. Zeppelin quit when it was time for them to quit. The Stones have continued releasing yearly compilations and albums that rely on fan nostalgia.

izzzzy 06-29-2003 06:04 AM

led zeplin

YaWhateva 06-29-2003 05:54 PM

Led Zeppelin. The only song i really like by the Stones is Paint it Black.

So does anyone have the new live cd that Zeppelin put out? i wanna buy it but i am short on spending money, so is it worth it?

TheClarkster 06-29-2003 07:30 PM

To further distance the gap, my vote goes for Zeppelin too.

call me crazy, but as long as I've been listening to zeppelin I've failed to see how they were "heavy" metal at all, or even really metal for that matter.........

Jadey 06-30-2003 09:27 PM

I think Led Zeppelin are the much better band. I don't think there is any comparison.

I'm a little biased also because I hate the Stones. Just can;t stand them.

But I think LZ are one of the best rock bands of all time.

omnigod 06-30-2003 10:04 PM

Zeplin!

Bob Biter 06-30-2003 10:57 PM

I've got a whole lotta love for Led Zeppelin.

The first disc will only appeal to fans; the recordings are all from 1970, so there's nothing from IV, or even III. I loved it, though, for the 3 versions of "Dazed and Confused".

The second disc is great, but the whole lacks the coherence of The Song Remains the Same. If you're really a Zep fan, you'll like it, but if not, stick with Song.

woolley bear 07-01-2003 09:11 PM

yep I vote majority here Zep it is Stones sound the same on most albums where as I like almost every track on every zeppelin album

bundy 07-01-2003 10:23 PM

ROLLING STONES!!!!

great band. so´s Led Zep, but for me its Mick and Keith. legends.

however, picking up my little sister in Melbourne doesn´t do them any favours in my good books!

God of Thunder 07-02-2003 07:23 AM

How is this even a contest?????

The Stones were a mediocre band with crappy writing, a singer who couldn't sing and a drunk guitart that has been overhyped for two-note riffs.

Don't even get me started on Charlie Watts' "drumming" ability.

Panopticon 07-02-2003 06:47 PM

Led Zeppelin

I don't really even think they are comparable, really. They are like two totally different types of music. Led Zeppelin is really hard, metal-ish blues-rock and the Stones are more of a hard-pop-rock with a blues twist.

Led Zeppelin is probably the best band ever, in my opinion. If you are going by the musicians, that is. Jimmy Page is one of the top 3 guitarists of all time, John Bonham is like the best drummer EVER, Robert Plant is amazing on vocals, and John Paul Jones is a very good bass player and keyboardist. I don't think you can find a better group of musicians, except for maybe Queen (Freddie Mercury is quite possibly the best singer ever, John Deacon has to be one of the best bassists, Brian May is in the top 5 guitarists of all time, and Roger Taylor is a more than capable drummer).

Ya I got it and i really like it. thanks for the input.

Two competely different animals here.

Both have been extremely influential though I believe the music of the Stones has stood the test of time better.

darkmagnus 07-03-2003 05:35 PM

I agree, that they are two completely different animals, but I think that Zeppelin's music has stood the test of time better.

Just look at the sales of HTWWW and Zeppelin DVD. I think, that if Plant, Page and Jonesy decided to go on tour, it would break every concert record around. They don't, because they have respect for their dead band member. They would never be the same without him.

The Stones, on the other hand, keep milking the same cow that died after Exile on Main Street.

That is just my humble opinion, though.

I love both bands. I have both Exile and LZ III in my car on constant repeat!

Led Zep without a doubt---one of the most talented and important bands ever!!!!!

attercop1 07-05-2003 08:40 AM

God of Thunder has it exactly right in my opinion. Couldn't have said it better. LZ, no contest.

Thank You:thumbsup:

monkeydriven 07-07-2003 12:49 PM

Zep.....

Not really fair argument though...different forms of music....like saying who's better, Robert Johnson or Muddy Waters....
