anyone here listen to any -core bands?

You're new. Welcome friend. You'll probably get a much better response to this thread if you answer your own question by telling us what kind of "-core bands" you're into.

As far as your question goes, most of the metal I'm into is thrash metal from the 80's. eg. Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, etc.

I'm not really into anything "-core" that I know of. Of course this whole hardcore thing these days kind of escapes me.

"Core" music makes me want to slit my wrists and cry in the corner... oh wait, is that supposed to be emo that does that?

To me core music is to metal what emo is to punk.

sometimes ill listen to grindcore, like Nausea or Phobia (gatta love those names :rolleyes:)

the closest i ever get to metal, really, is thrash. stuff like the good ole' municipal waste.

Cattle Decapitation > -core bands.

Seriously, I don't even know any -core bands anymore... Hatebreed, maybe? Sworn Enemy, Terror, etc...

You know Bacchanal, it's funny that while Cattle Decapitation started all this "gore not core" nonsense, they still are very much so and always have a been a grindcore band. Well there's that and the fact that they tour almost exclusively with hardcore bands simply because "hardcore kids buy merch."

Lord knows I've probably a few of their kids through college already.

And as for the topic at hand, I'm really surprised this thread hasn't garnered any more responses - I remember the tfp being bit more eclectic. But in any case, grindcore is pretty much where it's at. Perhaps it's just the bands that I listen to but I have yet to hear any other genre in which so much creative license is taken.

New bands like Nyia and Car Bomb are finding smart and inventive ways to expound upon the genre blending habits of Cephalic Carnage and The Dillinger Escape Plan (to name a few) while bands like Pig Destroyer and Converge push the envelope that much further with their every release.

i thought melt banana was classified as "Noise" music.

I was thinking more HxC than grind, but if we're talking grindcore I can go along with almost every band Skafe named except Melt Banana. They are garbage in my opinion. I'll also add a couple favorites of mine:

Daughters - Hell Songs (the vocals on this one are flat out odd, but awesome)
Cephalic Carnage - Anomalies (my favorite album by them)
Pig Destroyer - Terrifyer
Genghis Tron - Dead Mountain Mouth (though I don't know if this can really be called grind)

Finally, if Cryptopsy is grind (??) then check out their album "None So Vile". It is wonderful from beginning to end!

i just downloaded a Converge album on dial up here.

utter crap in my opinion. but then again, its not really my kind of music. maybe something else from the top 10 list will better suit my needs.

im more into stuff like Common enemy, crucial unit, municipal waste, disrupt, and resist when it comes to the harder music.

Well to be fair, most of the hardcore I listed leans much more so to the metal side of the spectrum than it does punk. There's just something far too typical in the tempos and the strong structures for me to really get in to most punk bands. It all sounds like the Ramones to me - far too simple and uninteresting.

But Municipal Waste are playing two dates here and I'm most certain I'll end up at one of their shows.

Which Converge album did you download?

And Bacchanal, I've told you a million times, while you may hate their albums - their live show is one of the best I've ever seen. Double up your Huggies and download their split with Discordance Axis. Incredible.

I listen to quite a few of the bands listed, such as 36 crazyfists, The Agony Scene, All that Remains, As I Lay Dying, Atreyu (old Atreyu, not their new shit), Black Dahlia Murder, Bleed the Sky, Bleeding Through, Caliban, Everytime I Die, God Forbid, Heaven Shall Burn, Himsa, Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, Misery Signal, Poison the Well, Shadows Fall, Sinai Beach, Still Remains, Threat Signal, Trivium, Unearth...

That took too long, I'm not all about categorizing metal, I like a good variety personally. But I suppose a lot tend to fit into the metalcore category.

the daughters-canada songs was alright. Noise is okay at times, not my bag of tea though.

If you liked Canada Songs, you should definitely check out Hell Songs. Same singer, completely different sound.

I like the more grunge and alternative like Alice in Chains, Tool, Rage Against The Machine, Godsmack.

I'm not much into the -core genres. I tend to stick to the other genres of metal.

Same here. I tend to stick with thrash and groove metal.

Well I downloaded a "Deathcore pack" the other day and there was actually some decent shit on there...

I've known these guys since they were 15 and now they're like the biggest metal band in the UK. Mad.

I used to listen to a hell of a lot of metal but now I hardly listen to any. If I am going to listen to any now it'd probably be either Architects, Decapitated, Ion Dissonance or Meshuggah. Maybe Job for a Cowboy might get in there too haha.

i finally heard a pelican song on the radio yesterday. been reading about them for a couple years and it sounded like something interesting, but wow. i will buy it now.

I won't even bother to try to break the lyrics down into "proper" lines, the erratic vocal rhythm is one of those things that shows their death metal roots. Some lines are repeated, and the third line isn't sung in full until the end (where it isn't listed in the liner notes,) but you can still read along if you can't understand the words.

Awesome song. The intro and the end are just - incredible. And while I can certainly appreciate the guitar gymnastics throughout the entire album, "Angry Mob Justice" and "Whoa! Shut It Down" are the only two stand out tracks. The breakdown on the latter is earth shattering.

Their music seems to be the direction Lamb Of God would've headed if they had more core influences than metal and if their new albums didn't suck so much.

Just started listening to a band called Psycroptic, they released an album called Ob(Servant) in 2008 and have a couple of older albums that I haven't checked out yet. They fall into the technical death metal category and are from Australia.

Ob(Servant) is a solid album. Complex riffs, brutal drums. There is some variety in the vocals, despite being death metal. Everything is very tight.
