Songs for a Canadian trip, eh

I am going to be doing some driving in Canada and since there might not be a radio station there, I will have to bring my own music. I thought it would be a good idea to try to come up with some songs about Canadian to listen to. I'm not sure, but I might make Da Yoopers an honorary mention on this list. They are from the UP of Michigan which could be taken over by Canada and nobody would notice.

So, here is what I have found so far...

look at some of the recent TFP HollaWalla posts... there's some canadians there.

I love the Arrogant Worms... they are just one of many keys to understanding Canadian self depreciating humour.

If you want to hear some great Canadian music... http://radio3.cbc.ca/

This one was kind of funny (I guess Canadians might not all agree), but it is from a TV show.

Also on that list are Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie:

Something to know about Canada... those who are not living in Toronto, hate Toronto.

Leto 04-20-2008 04:48 AM

for some inexplicable reason... and most of them came from Toronto at some point.

How about: Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Barenaked Ladies?

silent_jay 04-20-2008 11:53 AM

Barenaked Ladies are American, we trader them and Alanis Morisette for a bag of pucks, and a bottle of rye.

They seemed fairly Canadian when I met them in Wendy's at Mission BC on their way to Abbotsford Airport a few years back. :orly:

Charlatan 04-20-2008 04:48 PM

Daniel_ they *are* Canadian... Jay is just taking the piss.

Whenever my wife and I would start out on a road trip (Often back and forth between Toronto and Edmonton for the summer) we'd always put in Don Ross's First Ride from his album Bearing Straight.

There's nothing like an open road.

Not a real song obviously, but I like it for it's basic listings of famous Canadians

Oh yeah! I forgot about Big Sugar. They have some great driving tunes, especially if you like your Rock bottom heavy and fuzzy.

Baraka_Guru 04-20-2008 07:23 PM

fresnelly, not to mention the occasional reggae vibe thrown into that bluesy rock.

Another good Canadian travel tune.

Sloan - "Money City Maniacs"

At the heart of the travelling band
You have to understand
There's a driving need to hit the yellow line

Seconded.
I'd also add
Rush (it would be a crime to forget them)
Great Big Sea (if you are heading out east they are mandatory)
and The Bare Naked Ladies (try out some of their early stuff when on the road trip)

So was I.

Damn my dry Englsh wit.

I did really meet them in a hick town strip mall though. It was bloody odd, as they're one of my favourite groups and at the time (~1999) hardly anyone in the UK had heard of them.
