John Prine - Sam Stone
|
ring: I love some John Prine, and I love that song. I've heard a better version of it done live, but I always like to hear that music.
|
I hear you...I wish there was a larger selection to choose from on Seeqpod.
there are many others of his I would love to hear again... |
Gaucho by Steely Dan
One of my favorite Steely Dan songs...the lyrics crack me up every time I listen... Quote:

Chris Smither gets no love...but he's amazing. That album "Live as I'll ever be" is fucking awesome.

|
before the cranberrys, the coors, all those girl bands... there was strawberry switchblade.
|
nice, cyn--i have *such* a swooning weakness for strawberry switchblade...
|
Corb Lund - Horse Soldier, Horse Soldier
I can't get this out of my head today... see if you can get all the references. |
Whenever I think of Corb Lund I think of that silly novelty song.
Corb Lund Band - Truck Got Stuck |
Cyn's journal posting got me thinking about Toast...
Sorry to continue the novelty song thing but this song just makes me grin. |

I just woke up not seven minutes past, and here I sit munching away at my Reese's Puffs cereal, with what else, but 2% milk and a spoon. :D |
Squeeze - Black Coffee in Bed
...keeping with the breakfast theme...but I think I posted this one somewhere else...I'm experiencing seeqpod disorientation, lol |
UPDATE:
Thievery Corporation - Until the Morning "I feel alright, alright, now I feel strong, I feel rigid It's nothing to do with the vision Oh, feels so right, so right" Lightbulb: I may have found a common definition to create a new 20 min. playlist in accordance with "Be the Radio DJ" thread by recalling these lyrics.. |
Sarah Harmer - Coffee Stain
Not exactly breakfast but what can I say? I love Sarah Harmer. |
I suppose we can keep it going. ->
|
one more cup of coffee... was orginally trying to find Garbage's break up song http://youtube.com/watch?v=0uzuNt2XImc, but found this one instead....
|
Sorry to break the coffee thing but it's 7:30 pm here and I am all coffee'd out.
A little hometown music for Martian... Oshawa's Cuff the Duke - If I Live or If I Die... Sorry about the double post... can someone (cyn?) delete the dupe? |

Little more CtD, because they rock. |
The Weakerthans is just one of the those bands that grow on you. John K Sampson's lyrics are a real treat.
This song is about a bus driver who has to constantly drive by the house where he and his ex used to live. "this part of the day bewilders me..." |
The Housemartins - Caravan of Love
reminds me of times that seem to be less turbulent but yet had their own turbulence... |
The Housemartins were one of the most overlooked bands of the 80s. Good share, cyn.
I added Twilight Singers - Bonnie Brae. Great band. Great song. |
Cursive - The Recluse
I need to diversify and expand my musicology. I have but an intimate knowledge of less than 700 songs at the moment, so I will add this one for you all since I discovered it just now. |
Sir rabbit sir..that is a something I will listen more to.
I chose Moby- Extremes Ways...for the... |
House of the Rising Sun - Jerry Garcia, Dave Grisman and Tony Rice
|
A Boy Named Sue - Johnny Cash
written by Shel Silverstein.... |
"Rocky Raccoon" - The Beatles
Chosen for its slightly stronger storytelling than the average Beatles song. |
Johnny Cash - The Man Who Couldn't Cry
...this song really gets to me...in so many ways |
I find it interesting that mixedmedia would class House of the Rising Sun as country. That interpretation does have a definite country influence, but I would still call it blues.
In the spirit of that, I thought we could do with some Muddy Waters. |
Quote:
And it is a take on the song done in the traditional vein...not so much country, but I was taking the short cut. |
Keeping on with the blues. What better artist for the "HollaWalla" than Howlin' Wolf?
|
Screamin' Jay Hawkins - I put a spell on you.
I love Screamin' Jay... |
a little bit of mississipi fred mcdowell to keep the blues thing rolling.
i love mississippi fred... |
I debated Albert King or Mississippi John Hurt. Al won in the end for having more soul.
|
Etta James - I'm Gonna Take What He's Got
...you're not gonna find much more soul no where, no how than Etta James :) |
