if I could dissect the other players easily, I'd add those as bbcode since they don't preload the thread, which is what is causing this particular crash of flash9.ocx and subsequently the browser. I'm checking it out in opera now, but it's just one tab opened.

This is the kind of thing Flashblock is good for. (I'll post a playlist or three eventually.)

this is inspired by willravel

It's crosses several musical genres over the 5 decades that span the James Bond franchise, but is strung together as a soundtrack.

I made an addition to my perfect pop songs playlist - In Between Days by The Cure.

Robert Smith has come close to the perfect pop song many times, but this one hits the mark for me.

I actually barely know what to call this genre; folk/punk would be my best guess. Kimya Dawson had 5 tracks featured in the Juno soundtrack and I just love her... I enjoy her lyrics a lot and I'm just a sucker for acoustic guitar too!

You'll probably hear some familiar lyric samplings in the first song My Rollercoaster.

For starters; Hello good people.

Seconds; I find this to be a most ingenius thread!

The premise to going about sharing a genre you are well-versed in and are, for the most part, musically-inclined to listening to for personal/preferential reasons, with those of your fellow good neighbors who may not have had the same chance, upbringing, or general interest to such songs/artists, well... is what music really is. Other than the talent, tune, and tonality, this is what music is supposed to be in the real world.

I will peruse the thread from start to finish at a later date, and I'll try to rid of a few voids in musical genre and likeness if I can see to it.

french pop from the 1960s that i like.

most of this list is in a vaguely yé-yé mode except for the last serge track, which is from the ballad of melody nelson (and is too great and also 1971 and also a concept album) and the leo ferre track, which remains the saddest song i've ever heard. particularly if you understand the lyrics.

European Metal:

Some of these are definitely categorized as something other than JUST metal, like progressive, death metal, industrial etc. None the less, they're some of my favorites.

The Bossa Nova

The Bossa Nova.

The traditional Brazilian 'Samba' with a western twist.

In the early 1960's, Stan Getz released an album, 'Jazz Samba" (a must have) featuring the vocal talents of Joao and Astrud Gilberto. And the bossa nova became all the rage. Lots of touring ensued - as well as a romance between Getz and Astrud Gilberto that ended the Gilberto marriage. Ah, love.

But their music lives on...this is music for chilling...way down low.

If it doesn't strike you right off, give it a while. You'll see...

Enjoy

Linux is stable, although how much so depends on the distro. Browser crashes are not the fault of the OS.

I still have no playlist for this thread. Guess I should get on that, huh?

We "Procrastinator-Perfectionists" need to get the rightful recognition we deserve...sometime down the line, that's right.

Will, I don't know how I let Royksopp or Kate Havnevik through my nets. I love trip hop but have never heard of them.

Cynthetiq, I love that ska mix you put up.

that dub is awesome. It is reggae, yes? If not, explain the difference. Also... could you throw up another playlist?

kinshasa sounds.

so there's more or less 3 generations of sound--the earlier rhumba, soukous and some newer stuff that's being marketed internationally by crammed records under the name congotronics.

franco and the tout puissant ok jazz orchestra was one of the great bands in the universe, in my humble opinion. these tracks give and idea, but not more than that. you can hear the tunes tipping toward soukous---the pepe kalle track is totally there, and if you think backward, you'll hear the movement.

the congotronics bands are quite different---they're street bands which make their own instruments and sound systems. alot of this stuff is just great---but it's much harder. the economic and political situations in dr congo are not good at all---so the older stuff, which was more an elite music (hugely popular too) has kinda broken up---and these other bands are just starting to get out.

no doubt this is so simplified a notion of kinshasa music as to mean almost nothing for someone who is closer than essex massachusetts---but it's so cool and there's so much great music.

i'm kinda obsessed with the kasai allstars, btw. so great.
