Ok, I dont usually watching MTV or VH1, but I was flipping the channels to get to ESPN, and I saw Wierd Al's face on VH1, so I stopped there and watched. It was Al TV, and he was just beginning a little mock interview with Eminem. A few minutes later, I was rolling on my bed with laughter. Wierd Al is the greatest.

So, it got me thinking about how inspirational he has been for me. I used to write parodies of his parodies when I was in school. I think he says way more about music than the original artists of all of his songs do. I think he absolutely schooled Eminem in his mock interview and that blonde piece of trash should know when he's beat. I'm currently scouring the internet in search of a vid clip of that interview.

As it goes, one of Wierd Al's newest songs has really made me laugh. It's all about the Pentiums. This is the greatest geek anthem ever. I hope computer nerds everywhere embrace this song as I have.

Do any of you have a favorite Wierd Al moment/song?

Weird Al talking with Ozzy on the original Al TV from the Mtv days. It doesn't get much funnier than that.

Oooo, uhhh, I do believe that the "All About the Pentiums" song was on the "Running With Scissors" album that came out two years ago? So technically, its not all that new. :)

Oh yeah, I own all his albums except for the Food album, Al in 3-D, Running with Scissors, and Poodle Hat. :D And Adam Sandler sucks.

I haven't seen the interview yet, but it has got to be great...
I've seen Al live twice, and he puts on a great show! He's coming to town next month, so I think I might have to go again.

I particularly like the stuff he does that's not aimed at a particular song so much as a particular style. "Dare to be Stupid" is a perfect example; it doesn't sound like any Devo song; it sounds like <i>every</i> Devo song. "Mr. Popeil" is the same way with the B-52s. I also really like "Buy Me a Condo" and "Your Horoscope for Today".

On the other hand, Al has ruined some songs for me. "Zoot Suit Riot" always turns into "Grapefruit Diet" whenever I hear it.

On the gripping hand, he has proven beyond the shadow of a doubt that Polka can be really amusing to listen to.

I still can't listen to Give It Away by Red Hot Chili Peppers without thinking of the line "Got a baby elephant vacuum cleaner" from Bedrock Anthem.

Weird Al is the best. If I have any song covered by Weird Al in my head, it's got his lyrics. I always get a kick out of 'Trigger Happy' too.

Whoa, "Mr. Popeil" was supposed to sound like the B-52s?!? It all makes sense now... sk

al-tv was amazing, did you catch the justin timberlake interview?

That show also showed a new video that was a Bob Dylan-esque type folk song (complete with the Dylan parody of dropping the cue cards with the song lyrics on them).

It took me almost the entire song to realize that every single line in the song was a palindrome. There must have been 50 of them! Truly amazing to sit and figure all of those out!

I'll look up the lyrics and post them if I can find them.

oh yeah, I remember that one! My friend caught it about halfway through...

I believe it was in the 80's, he was an opening act for the Monkees. It was when the song "Addicted To Spuds" a parody of Robert Palmers song "Addicted To Love" was popular. He had some really outlandish outfit changes and the stage show was fantastic.

weird al is one of a kind. although he has not broken any harmonic boundaries as he mostly just parodies and noodles with polko, he has successfully done what nobody has. for that, and the fact that his parodies are funny, weird al is the man.

There's nothing greater than seeing Weird Al in concert. He does so many costume changes, even the fat suit. And in between songs there's these hilarious videos they play on the big screen over the stage.

wierd al, man , myth, legend, rich guy--- and for once rightly so- personaly I liked the episode one song better than the movie

"It's all about the pentiums" is one of my favourites - great deal better than the crap song it is spoofing (heard the parody first actually) and the doves flying out of the car when the doors open is hilarious.

Amish Paradise is so filled with double meanings, it's brilliant and hysterical.

when i was in the 1st grade i was on the playground and i heard someone singing "fat". i looked around and found the kid. we never really talked to each other before but we started talking about weird al and we've been my best friend ever since. and we both still love al.

The quick wit tunes make for very funny sing/songs.

the ten minute polka on his new album, ripping on every nu-metal band out there now was amazing. Especially his take on Disturbed, I spilled quite a bit of beer during that part.

'Livin with a Hernia' was my anthem for two months, Wierd Al got me through a very difficult time in my life. I was infuriated with Eminem when he wouldn't let Wierd Al parody him.

Al did 'Al TV' on MuchMusic (Canadian MTV) many, many years ago. Can't remember much of it, but he 'interviewed' Tom Petty, ended with something about butterscotch enemas. It's one of the funniest things I've ever heard.

Eminem wouldn't let him do a video for it, and ya that's bullshit since Eminem likes to cut up everyone else but can't take it himself.

LOL, I remember all the Canadian AL-TVs on Much Music and I still have them all on video tape...pure comedy genius.

I own every Weird Al CD and at one time had all the cassettes and a couple of recods (3-D & Dare To Be Stupid)

I was one happy mofo when UHF was finally released on DVD.

Can't believe how long it took him to release a new CD (Poodle Hat) but as usual, it was worth the wait.

He has always been one of my favorites since childhood. I love "Yoda" "One more Minute" and "Those were the good old days"

well.. i think i may be a bit older than most here.. .. not all .. but most.. and I remember hearing him alot on the DR. Demento show. Another one Rides The bus.. and.. like a surgeon.. .. lol.. yeah.. i haven't followed al's career all that much.. but he certainly has stuck around.. kudos to him.

My brief TFP experience has now come full circle. I know it makes me a dork, but I talked about UHF on a bad movie thread, talked about star wars, and now I'd have to say that my fovorite song of his was the star wars song set to American Pie. The song and the lyrics were perfect in capturing the plot of the movie with humor and sadness.
Maybe Vader later, but now he's just a small fry...
I did really love UHF though.

The UHF Dvd has one of the best commentaries I've ever heard.

It's just a riot to listen to Wierd Al make fun of his own Jokes, and remember every single detail about all the actors and places they shot.

Heh, I've actually seen him in concert (I am such a dweeb!), but it was well worth it; he's a pretty awesome entertainer.

I think my favorite Weird Al moment is the expression he makes when he looks directly into the camera. Make me giggle every time. :)

Weird Al was the first music I ever got in to. My favorite songs are "Alburqurque", "You don't Love Me Anymore", and the greatest Christmas song ever, "The Night Santa Went Crazy".

We used to sing that one on camping trips in Scouts.
