At the end of this week, I'm going to be going on an 18 hour bus trip and I want to revamp my ipod before I leave.

I'm going to ideally look for a mixture of classic rock, mellow music (think Annie Lennox "Into the West", Imogen Heap, etc), and latest and greatest (chart toppers, etc). My musical tastes run all over the board, though I tend to stray from heavy metal and hard core hip hop.

Lately I've been listening to The Ramones, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, KT Tunstall, Imogen Heap, The Killers, The Postal Service, Snow Patrol, Amy Winehouse, Cowboy Junkies, and the lastest Top 40 - just to name a few...

Any ideas at all are extremely welcome!

Travis's album "The Man Who" is my all-time favorite road trip music. It starts off with "Writing to Reach You", which has this very shuffly rhythm to it that matches perfectly with wheels turning. If someone else is doing the driving, I listen to this and let my mind wander. I also really love Crowded House's greatest hits album, "Recurring Dream", and Neil Finn's album "One All". Kind of quiet but with some upbeat tunes when you need them.

If I'm driving, I like to listen to Muse's "Absolution". It has a bunch of great driving songs, like "Stockholm Syndrome".

I drive a lot for work doing home visits. When I'm not doing books on CD, I have to listen to music to keep from jumping out of the car and bustin' a cap in the q-tips.

You should hear my cardio mix for the gym. I entertain myself.

Of course, there is no accounting for taste....mine included.

Personally, I'm with Redlemon. I think podcasts are the way to go; that or sleeping. I can't imagine being awake for 18 hours on a road trip, especially if I'm not driving. I'd give out suggestions, but my tastes trend towards the geeky; tech-shows and classroom lectures, which isn't most folks' cup o' tea, I'm told.
