some people mentioned yonder mountain...yep, love 'em. so here we go:

this first one is a john hartford tune...just for fly. right up your alley:
sound quality is questionable...concert footage and all.

and i mentioned newglass revival before: found this; totally beating ass.

ok, not bluegrass...but you should probably check out townes van zandt..many of you have heard his cover of 'deadflowers' at the end of the big lebowski

here (ignore the gay-ass pictures...jesus i hate the slideshows)

here he is playing a gibson j-200 deluxe model. this is poncho and lefty: a song that he's pretty well known for.

here's bob and willie playing it:

Thanks for all the links and suggestions guys. I've really been digging bluegrass since I watched a bluegrass deal on PBS about 6 months ago that had some super awesome festival. I like the non-traditional more but the traditional stuff is good too.

My dad is a huge bluegrass fan and I grew up listening to it, but I can't say I'm a big fan. Is John Prine considered bluegrass? Because he's actually not half bad.

Oh Brother Whereart thou opened up my ears quite a bit. All that picking can blur together after overloading on it (kind of like trad gaelic fiddle music too) but when I'm in the mood, I really dig the energy and harmony of it.

If you want a really mellow bluegrass album, I would suggest that you check out jerry garcia and john grismans stuff. They even cover grateful dead songs.

Like Medusa, my dad brought me up on bluegrass (and lots of other stuff) and I still love it.

He used to play for me:

Flatt and Scruggs

this one's just Earl Scruggs

The Stanley Brothers

Jim and Jesse

The Osborne Brothers

The Country Gentlemen (couldn't find a decent clip)

Alice Gerrard (also no clips)

Del McCoury

The Cox Family

and he even introduced me as an adult to a young Alison Krauss, who isn't so much bluegrass anymore, but I still like her (and Union Station) very much...

Couldn't get the clip to embed.
