and i'm telling you, you're not going -jennifer hudson
from the dream girls soundtrack -

Mini review of this song - I am a HUUUUGE Jennifer Holliday fan - who performed this song in the show on broadway so I'm biased- it's an ok version but nope it really isn't great - She sounds like a Joss stone wannabe... The song itself has so much passion in it and hudson just doesn't have it...

I bought the cd because i had read a review that said she was awesome and would "own" this song - (perhaps because she's a chicago native and it was a chicago paper :D Sorry -nope - Jennifer Holliday will forever own that song.

the rest of th songs on the soundtrack are good - beyonce i could take or leave - but eddie murphy can really sing...

Dave Douglas - Live At The Jazz Standard

If anyone's interested, check this out. This has to be some sort of jazz first:

http://www.greenleafmusic.com/#/arti...lbums/jazzstd/

Quote:

Between December 5 and 10, 2006, the Dave Douglas Quintet settled into New York's Jazz Standard for a six night run. Greenleaf Music recorded all 12 sets the group played that week. This project represents the broadest documentation of this critically acclaimed band to date. Each set, 60 minutes in length, features a unique combination of compositions and improvisations culled from previous albums The Infinite (2001), Strange Liberation (2003) and Meaning and Mystery (2006), as well as a book of new pieces recently road-tested on the Quintet's November, 2006 European tour. In all, Douglas recorded 40 different compositions, old and new. Live at The Jazz Standard represents an increcdible addition to the ouevre of the Grammy nominated Dave Douglas Quintet.
He had each set available for purchase the day after it was recorded. This is pretty fast turnaround time! Yay internets!

Garden State Soundtrack (yes, I don't just listen to classical...). One of my favorite songs on the CD is Simon and Garfuunkel's "The Only Living Boy in New York". The song is really something special, and it was the last song before Simon and Garfunkel split which gives it even more meaning.

Dragonforce - Inhuman Rampage (2006)
this is the kind of music i love to discover! I thought i hated all "heavy rock/metal w/e" but without the yelling in the songs, the guitar is realllly great!
i found this through the Guitar hero forum.

Dragonforce, mainly the twin solo guitars, are freaking awesome. Sonic Firestorm is an awesome album. Excellent listening!

alan lamb: night passage
from "original masters: night passage 1983-1997"

recordings of what lamb calls the faraway wind organ, "a half a mile of abandoned telegraph wire i found still standing in the far outback of western australia"--it is stunning stuff. amazing sounds, almost infinite scale.
