New Beastie Boys Album
New album coming out on June 26th.
No hip hop, strictly instrumentals. It should be pretty good considering their last hip hop album was somewhat disappointing, but their instrumentals always seems to be on point. I honestly have lost faith in them after Ill Communication as far as 100% solid albums are concerned. Don't get me wrong, they have a few gems here and there on the last two albums but this album has me soooo excited. No vocals at all either. Supposedly it is going to have that "post-punk alternative" feel. And may be re released with some guests vocals. What say you? |

I just remember reading a quote from Mike D saying that everyone was gonna hate it.
And that makes me worry. I'm not saying I'm not gonna buy it the moment it comes out... I'm just saying I'm worried.

There is another interview with Mike. It really breaks down what to expect from the album. Then again its hard to know when they are bullshitting and when they are serious. Have faith. |

Yeah...see, I just don't know how I feel about a Beastie Boys all-instrumental album.
I guess it's just not what I'm looking for from the Beastie Boys, but it's their prerogative to do what they want in the interest of being artists. Incidentally, I am equally entitled to my doubts.

Honestly, they will never be as good as they were up to Ill Communication. And after the last release, i am glad that they aren't going the hip hop route because their rhymes were doing more than lacking the skills we are used to by them. |

When were they on Roir Records? As far as I know... it's been Def Jam, Capitol, Grand Royal, then back to Capitol when Grand Royal when under.

Pollywog Stew and Cookie Puss were on Ratcage records. Then they moved to Def Jam.
Bad Brains, Reagan Youth, and the Beatsies were never on the same label. Yes they played with Bad Brains (who only have one album on ROIR) and Reagan Youth at one point, and were fans/friends of each other, but thats about as far as it goes. Yauch did/is produced/ing the newest Bad Brains album though. |

Album just came out today, I drove up to Newberry Comics, and it turns out they give ya a free Beastie Boys pint glass when you buy it there, so that's a nice plus. It might replace my Achewood pint glass as my go to beer glass. But back on topic: The new CD.
It's a lot like the Beastie's other instrumental CD, The In Sound from Way Out, but if you haven't heard that, think of the instrumental tracks from Ill Communication, Like Futterman's Rule and Ricky's Theme, and you can get a feel for what the albums like. I wouldn't really call it Jam band music, so no worries there WK, though I don't know how to classify it. Really their old instrumental tracks are the best comparison to the new music. Overall though, I like it. I threw it in for the ride home and it makes for really good cruising music. At the very least, its worth a listen by any Beastie Boys fan. |
