Yup. I have a fender stratocaster. I'm self taught and I've playing off and on for the last few years. I can keep up on the rhythm portion of most Metallica, Megadeth, Ozzy, Motörhead, and Anthrax songs. Just wish I was a little better when it came to playing lead.

hey Spectre im about the exact opposite of you. I can do a few Metallica solos, I can do most of "1000 Times Goodbye" by Megadeth but Mustaine plays this one part quite a bit faster than i can go...really working on getting it up to speed.

However when it comes to rhythm playing im not so great. I can keep up pretty well unless they're doing some really weird timings. Wish i was better at it though.

I can play some decent lead...I've been practicing Holy Wars everyday for a long time, and am still having a hard time keeping it up to speed....Lucretia is another favorite of mine....I try to play everything though, I'm developing a weird style of picking on my acoustic...Kinda classical in that I use all of my fingers[pima baby!] I rarely ever use a pick, and find it's working pretty good on giving me a different sound...I just use my pointer finger and thumb to play all the fast stuff...Oh yeah, been playing for about 3 years seriously, with a practice regimen.

I've been playing for about 3-4 years. However, I don't play any of the stuff that you guys play. I'm into DMB, Coldplay, Radiohead.. stuff like that. Quite a change of pace from you guys.

I have been playing for 6-7 yrs. classically trained and have spent the last two years working on Flamenco. sadly burned the shit out of my finger the other day and wnt be able to play for a while so ill have to stick to rhumba.

I haven't been playing as long as most of you but I think im doing well for only playing a little over a year. Right now im just about to get through my first session(tool a few months) of modal studies. I'm getting myself into triads and such in about two weeks.

And to the guy who's playing classical and flamenco i applaud you...both of those styles are pretty damn hard, for me anyways.

Stick with music theory and you can get into whatever you want. I think its just important to take your time to really learn the form(the way you sit,hold, and play the guitar) If you take the time to learn those right and try and stay comfortable you will have a good time playing guitar. But your theory background will take you lightspeeds ahead of those thatnever take the time to learn to read music. Notes are our language.

I got one cd out one on the way but they are both of techno that I wrote on random machines. I have a 1998 Shelton Farretta handmade Blanca with pegs. I record on my pc on a delta soundcard and do most of my work through cubase vst 5.0

I've been plunking away for about a year. I have a Fender Telecaster but I haven't taken lessons or anything yet so I'm not very good. I'm liking some of the old stuff from The Ventures 'cause it's so damn easy, plus I like the surf guitar sound.

I just found my old acoustic rotting away in my parents's basement recently, methinks I'm going to start playing. I'm going to do my best to self teach myself but the real problem is I don't have anyone that I can jam with... if I played with other people I think I'd pick up on it fairly quickly.

ive logged a year and a few months. im trying to learn eruption i can play the end and the beginning but i get hung up in the middle. does anyone know how to play it or know a good tab for it? all the tabs i found are by the same guy and i thinks it wrong.

I've been playing for about two years. The first year I took lessons, but since then I've just been playing "free lance". I'm decent, I suppose. I can usually play anything if I actually sit down and take the time to learn it and get it right.

I'm not real good at improvising stuff for solos if I am just fooling around, but I can play a few solos. I'm not sure how they rank on the difficulty scale, but I sound almost exactly like Jimmy Page when I play the solos to Stairway to Heaven and Whole Lotta Love. The Whole Lotta Love solo is really easy, in my opinion. It's an awesome solo, too, so if you haven't tried it out, you should do so. Once you know the solo and the main little riff, you can pretty much play the whole song.

EDIT - Oh yeah, I have an Fender "American Standard" Stratocaster. I bought it for like $450 on eBay and it is an AMAZING guitar. Of course, I haven't played anything else, so I'm not really sure how amazing it is!

Amazing how common threads are yep I play 20 yrs favorite Guitar a Fender Strat in Tobaco Followed very closely by a Gibson L6-s Custom in natural and and old Guild Acoustic and my newest toy a ovation 12 string

For you electric plauers out there, have you tried any of the new small sound boxes and digital recorders I picked up a Korg Pandora about the size of a deck of cards amazing what sounds you can get out of it????

That's quite the collection of gitboxes ya got there...I play a crusty Gremlin Classical, a Ibanez Performence, And an Epi junior for electric...Suprisingly my Epi stays in tune great...I've know some people who won't touch 'em cause they go out of tune after playing a couple of cords...One day I'll get some bucks together for a new one...but for now what I got suits me fine...

A lot of you guys have "Dream Gear" compared to me. I have a REALLY low-end Ibanez, but the damn thing never goes out of tune(I only have to tune it about every four days) so thats a lot better than i expected from it.

I also have a Crate GX-65. I love Crate amps, they're the only ones that i can get a decent lead sound from without using a distortion pedal.

18 years. I mostly play rhythm 'cause it's easier to just get into the groove and go. I've recorded 6 or 7 original compositions on my four-track recorder, but they're all instrumentals and they suck.

I've played for about six years. I do mostly folk/rock/bluegrass. I've never had lessons on guitar (though I did have seven years of piano lessons). I'm detirmined to start taking some for jazz or classical, and I am detirmined to learn some good blues. As far as my ax, I have a Taylor 710 (spruce/rosewood dreadnought) and a mexican tele that I never play.

I sucked back then but i'm starting to improve!!
i have a 93 takamine N-10 that is possessed by the voices of angels.
i also have a 57RI les paul goldtop that i hardly touch but it sure is purty.
I got the les paul and played lots but i can't keep my hands off my Takamine and i bought it new in 93!!!
I love that guitar and would live in a cardboard box rather than give her up!!!

I've been playing bass for two years, and guitar for two weeks I'm picking up the guitar pretty fast, and it seems to be improving my bass playing as well.

I got a Fender Deluxe Jazz Bass and an Essex Electric Guitar (Strat Copy, fretwork sucks, but overall it's damn good for $99 :P )

been playing for over ten years, many styles, many axes have come and gone. the best was a les paul studio, alpine white with gold hardware, lighter but still fat sounding. selling it was a heart breaker. i also built a strat once that had a duncan humbucker in the bridge, floyd rose lock nut tremelo and a roland guitar synth pickup in it. i hoped it would be the perfect gig guitar, but in trying to cover all the bases, it just got top heavy.

the only one that has stayed with me is my first tele, but it is now on it's fourth paintjob, second neck and i've put a texas screamer in the bridge pickup slot... nice for shred-a-billy. i run it through a fender 60 watt tube amp with a single 12" speaker. i got really tired of lugging big amps around years ago. i quit playing out when i got married, the money was never that good, the late hours got old and once you can't pick up stage door scag anymore, the appeal is completely lost. i've found i am not alone in this.

lately, all i have been playing is a taylor acoustic and have been really getting into manouche (gypsy swing) style like django reinhardt. it is seriously hard stuff to play, completely unlike anything i've ever tried.
