Looking for new female pop music
Yes, I do like pop, feel free to mock at will (it's not the only thing I listen to).
However, I think most of the female pop singers that came out in the end of 2006/beginning of 07' haven't been that hot so I'm in need of some new music. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Some artists and some suggestions for each:
Bic Runga - "Get Some Sleep", "Blue Blue Heart", "Sway" The Ditty Bops - "Fall Awake", "Walk or Ride", "Get Up 'N Go" Rachael Yamagata - "I Want You", "1963" Regina Spektor - "On the Radio", "That Time" (don't know her other albums) Rosie Thomas - "Finish Line", "Pretty Dress" Also, the album hasn't been released in the U.S. yet, but try "LDN" by Lily Allen.

Check out Susan Marshall. She just got finished touring with Cat Power. She also sang with the Afghan Whigs. Her voice is really amazing. I see her every chance I get when she performs live here. She's working on a new album at the moment and hopefully it will be out soon.
www.susanmarshall.net Also, check out Planet Swan. She's just moved back to California from Memphis. I'm not sure when her record is out. I haven't heard from her in a while. She has a great rock voice. www.myspace.com/planet www.planetswan.com They both sang on my band's album <a href="http://www.chessclubrocks.com" target=_blank"></a>! We're pop ... but not female pop. Doug Sorry for the edits. I needed to add a little more info. Last edited by vanblah; 01-12-2007 at 10:29 AM.. |

Depends on your version of Pop. Acoustic pop, Top 40, Dance Pop, Punk Pop, etc. Its pretty endless!
Anyway, for more upbeat styles of pop - Agree with FoolThemAll on The Ditty Bops and Lily Allen - Of the six listed they are the generally more catchier in two wildly different styles. Bic Runga is more understated and calming, while Rachael Yamagata/Regina Spektor take on a more singer/songwriter approach that would generally land them on an Adult Alternative station Additional listens (partly taken from my post in the best of 2006 thread)- The Pipettes - 60s'ish girl group from England - "ABC" "Judy" "Pull Shapes" Camera Obscura - Rock Pop - "Let's Get Out of This Country" "Lloyd, I'm Ready To Be Heartbroken", "Come Back Margaret" Amy Winehouse - RnB/Jazz Pop - "Love Is A Losing Game" "Back to Black" "You Know I'm No Good" Then there are some favorites from a few years ago - Shivaree - Rock/Countryish - "Goodnight Moon" "Reseda Casino" Girls Aloud - Girl Group - "Sound of the Underground" April March - Frenchish - "Laisse Tomber Les Filles" (or the english version "Chick Habit") Blumchen - German dance pop

can I self-promote? www.myspace.com/voiceofmeliesa and if you like what's there (more of the rock - edgier part of what I do), I can make some of my more "pop" stuff available to you.
Redlemon actually ordered my CD a couple of weeks ago. |

i picked up cat power's "the greatest" a week ago & can't stop listening to it. not really pop, i guess, but if you are looking for female singer/songwriters, she's really put out a strong disc there.

Peaches, K.T. Tunstall, Bitter:Sweet, Detroit Cobras
Dunno if that's all pop but they're good female singers/performers.

I have KT Tunstall, Lily Allen (bravo, great artist!) Rosie Thomas...all great artists.
I was looking for something along the lines of Kelly Clarkson/rockish with slightly more interesting lyrics.

While cruising through myspace the other day, I came across this artist, Hera. or the hot singer with the huge facial tattoo! She's Icelandic, but lives in New Zealand. I really what I've heard of her stuff and want the cd.
