Accidental/Unintentional Background Noise in Songs
Has anyone else ever listened to a song and heard a song what they're not sure whether it's supposed to be there? Lately this has really been ticking me off, as there's a song that I love that has a sound in it, and I can't tell whether it's supposed to be there... if it were accidental, I would be kind of surprised, as it's a generally well-produced, well-mixed, well-edited album as far as most albums go... it's at about 2:06 of this song, and I have really been wanting to verify whether it's supposed to be there or not. Here's a link so that you can listen:
http://www.angelfire.com/tx6/kwsn/Gl...retty_Lush.mp3 Anyone got any ideas what it could be? I'm really at a point of severe fustration over this... I dunno, it sounds kind of like a pool shot, with the cue hitting the ball... or something. Also, share any stories, thoughts, etc., you might have about the topic... and thanks in advance for the help. |
Hmmmm. Kinda sounds like the lead singer got all excited and clapped his hands near the mic.

to me sounds like the drummer is clicking his sticks together or something....im as surprised as you that something like this would have slipped by...

There was a song by Janis Joplin called "Turtle Blues"; I'd heard it for a lot of years. I knew it was a live recording, and just about in the middle of the song (during an instrumental bridge), I heard glass breaking; that always bothered me. One day I was reading an article by David Fong; he mentioned the song, and explained that the sound was an empty Southern Comfort bottle that Janis had been drinking out of; she threw it down and it broke, right after she got rid of it, someone handed her a fresh one, and she started in again.

I forget who did the song..Areosmith or The Stones or someone, well they were about to start recording a song and a airplane flew over and you can here the singer saying something like "wait...let it go". when you cant hear it anymore, they start.

There is a little background noise in S.O.D.'s "What's That Noise". :)

Ooooh, good and juicy thread! Sorry I don't know what is on the sound file you supplied, but I know about lots of other songs with odd/interesting/accidental background sounds.
One of the most famous would be "Love Rollercoaster" by Ohio Players (the original, NOT the Chili Peppers). Near the middle of the song, you can hear a woman's horrible scream in the background, and the urban legend popped up right away that it was the recorded death-scream of someone dying or being killed in the studio. The Ohio Players officially said, "Huh?" whenever asked about it, and sales of "Love Rollercoaster" went wild as morbid fans were desperate to hear the "death scream." http://www.snopes.com/music/hidden/roller.htm Near the end of "Strawberry Fields Forever," during the second fade-out, a voice appears to be saying "I buried Paul," which fueled a lot of the Paul Is Dead rumors. However, when the Anthology was released in 1995, it was easily proven that the voice was saying, "cranberry sauce," instead. As mentioned in the Beatles Smackdown thread, the song "Girl" features the Beatles chanting the word "tit" as part of the background vocals (just to see if they could get away with it). One sound that was NOT in a song that everybody claims to have heard was the infamous cricket accidentally captured on tape by Buddy Holly as he tried to record "That'll Be the Day" in his garage. That whole thing was completely fabricated (in addition to nearly everything else) for the Gary Busey movie. |
This one's for warrrreagle; When the White Album was being recorded, Crosby, Stills and Nash were at Abbey Road; they saw the music for "Blackbird" and decided to record their ow version (with the Beatles permission). I've got a copy of their acapella version, and at the end, you can hear John Lennon enter the studio saying he thought their version was better.

My best buddy told me about this...that they insert some "noise" into some songs in order to catch your attention.
There's one song...I can't think of it right now....where every time I hear it I swear to God I hear a cell phone ringing for just a second. Drives me around the bend!!!!! |
At the end of Metallica playing a cover of Blitzkrieg, you can hear Lars in the background yelling out to someone that they fucked up a part of the song.

The background noie in Korn's "Alive" made me think there was a problem with my stereo. I solved the mystery when I played the song backwards and discovered that it is actually the song recorded backwards at a lower volume.
