ICP is the worst band in music history

...according to this article: http://www.blender.com/guide/article...d=466&src=gp45 aside from unjustly including malmsteen and omitting coldplay, I'd say this list is rather spot on.

Ace_O_Spades 12-08-2006 05:02 PM

Hm, music forum? Anyway, I remember listening to ICP back in the late 90s... good humour. Filthy lyrics. Generally I would say there are a TON of bands who are far worse.

Willravel 12-08-2006 05:19 PM

I like Coldplay. I'm glad they're not on the list.

As for the list: DJ Paul Oakenfold and Jamiroquai are each very talented musicians in their own right. They're each a lot more popular world wide than Blender magizine will ever be, and I think it's silly for any and every author to think that they can compile these big, self important lists of bests and worsts. Speaking of which, these are the most useles magazines:
10) People
9) Entertainment Weekly
8) Teen People
7) The National Enquirer
6) Maxim
5) FHM
4) Seventeen
3) The American Conservative
2) National Review
1) Blender

FoolThemAll 12-08-2006 06:02 PM

Ah, come on, National Review's not that bad.

I pretty much hate Oakenfold and don't care about Jamiroquai, but that's probably mostly because I'm prejudiced against their respective genres.

While I could choose to be annoyed at the entire list, as there are likely thousands of bands worse than anything on it, I'm only really annoyed with the following inclusions:

Live - Yeah, they were dying by The Distance to Here and dead by V, but they put out some good stuff beforehand. And Blender further annoys me by listing their best album - Secret Samadhi - as their worst.

Kansas - What? Okay, they may have nailed the demographic description (in my experience), but what the hell's wrong with "Dust in the Wind" or "Carry On Wayward Son" that didn't emerge from years of overplay? Plenty of solid material there, I maintain.

The Doors - Well, no, I'm not actually annoyed here, even though they obviously belong nowhere near this list, even though they're a decent band at worst. They always struck me as mostly dull, right up there with 90% of the Rolling Stones' catalog. Only ever found "The Crystal Ship" to be more than average. So this paragraph was just a bait-and-switch for bashing the incredibly overrated Doors. I'd take Kansas or Live (pre-Distance) over them any day. Hell, Blind Melon as well.

And one final tangent, related to their comments on Live, is this: U2 had a grand total of three worthwhile songs in their decades of existence. Fuck a U2, I sez.

Where on that list are Britney Spears? Christina Aguilerrah? Sean Combs? Jessica Simpson? Hillary Duff? That red head that ruined Herby? All those punks that are the perfect sellouts? I don't see the teenyboppers who pander to anything and everything anywhere on that list!

Blender can't afford to piss off people who might still be willing to appear on their cover.

BINGO!!!!!

snowy 12-08-2006 07:07 PM

It is a fact that lists such as these are just a device to sell more magazines and thereby sell more advertisements.

zed wolf 12-08-2006 07:57 PM

Nooo!! I like ICP. The Dark Carnival is some cool shit! Some of it is a bit repetitive but overall its pretty good stuff

jerseyboy 12-08-2006 08:38 PM

I am surprised by the lack of inclusion of a lot of pop groups/ boy bands on the list. I def think Hilary Duff should have been included.

flat5 12-09-2006 04:10 AM

I do not see The Instant Composers Pool (ICP) on the list.
Good. It does not belong there.

You might not like the group but there is no denying their musicianship.
I had the good fortune to play about 6 jobs with them in 1983 :-)
(The Herbie Nichols Project)

The artical is supposed to be amusing. It is not a serious piece about music.

Just for the record.

Sorry to get off topic, but I'd rather talk about how pitiful some magazines/periodicals (like Blender) are than a discussion [the topic is good on its own merit] based on a blender article.

What I will say is that they pandered to their own fans and record labels if they omitted nickelback [a bunch of other rock pseudo-ballad 'bands'], kenny g, the whole genre of 'boy bands' and teenage female singers that were in pop culture from 1997-2002.

with regards to how i feel about icp - if you can't something nice, don't say anything at all......
[i wont waste time with anymore than that].

cya,
keyshawn.

Telluride 12-09-2006 10:19 AM

I've never been a fan of ICP, but they definitely aren't the worst band in music history.

How about a list of the most overrated bands/musicians of all time? The Beatles, The Doors and Jimi Hendrix would make my list.

I believe that Sean Combs IS on the list. Check out Master P/ P Diddy. These guys apparently had something against "Make 'Em Say Ughh"

Willravel 12-09-2006 11:34 AM

Master P /= P Diddy. They are two different forces of destruction in the music world.

roachboy 12-09-2006 12:29 PM

why is this list interesting?

It's like intellectual light beer. It's really meaningless and useless, but it's something to do.

biznatch 12-09-2006 03:26 PM

The people that think they have enough musical taste, knowledge, ear, and authority to write lists like these (these kind of lists just shouldn't exist because they're all a matter of opinion) are the same kind of people who write things like The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time(Rolling Stone).
Kurt Cobain is number 12? Not that I dislike the guy, but there's just hundreds of better guitarists.

I try my best to ignore these lists, because they're useless and based on nothing (except maybe for the artists' popularity at the time of edition).

That list of guitarists is terrible. I don't even know where to start.

How the hell is Eddie Van Halen at number 70? Or Angus Young at 96? Van Halen should be in the top 10, and Young no lower than 30th. Kurt Cobain and Jerry Garcia are not better guitarists than Eddie Van Halen, Carlos Santana, Tom Morello, Mark Knopfler, Angus Young, or Kim Thayil, just to name a few...

Where is Chet Atkins on that list?

The_Jazz 12-11-2006 09:14 AM

Can we just presumptively add Lindsey Lohan's little sister as a matter of course? Please?

Smimpinj 12-12-2006 10:03 PM

I must heartily disagree with the inclusion of the Crash Test Dummies on that list. They have so many awesome songs.

Where is Bonnie Raitt? The only female guitarist I saw was Joni Mitchell. Surely Bonnie Raitt and Nancy Wilson should have been ranked as well.

Lasereth 12-13-2006 04:41 AM

This list is fundamentally wrong because Styx and Billy Joel are excluded. Also, I can't believe Manowar is on the list. So much h8.

biznatch 12-13-2006 05:28 AM

The list just shouldn't exist, as the magazine that published it, and the authors that wrote it.
Or maybe I'm being bitter after a sleepless night, at 6:25 am. :hmm:

Scrub0 12-13-2006 09:56 AM

i like some older ICP. it's good until you try to take it seriously.

That's amazing, flat5. I am a huge fan of the album "Changes Of Season." I also had the pleasure of meeting Misha and Han last year. Crazy dudes.

Good point. I remember seeing Joan Jett on the list, though.

flat5 12-16-2006 06:06 AM

Hi aberkok. Han is a very friendly guy. He always has a good word for me.
I've know Micheal Moore since 1973. He is a wonderful musician, and a good guy.

I don't have any of the ICP records or CDs so don't know the music on the CD you mention.

flat5 12-28-2006 06:31 AM

It just occured to me to Google on ICP.
I guess the group refered to is the "Insane Clown Posse"

So "nevermind".
