I heard back from Therion about my audition

for those of you who are interested...

over 100 applicants, I made the top 5, but they decided on someone with a more "clean" tone, more operatic (I have had opera training, but years of singing hard rock puts an "edge" on the voice that detracts from the purity).

Got a personal email from Christofer Johnsson, pretty cool.

There were 5 singers among the applications that we thought had a
serious chance of being able to fill the position as a live soprano
in Therion and I'd like to send you people a personal reply.

Your voice is very impressive in the upper range, if I'd need someone
to perform some coloratura notes from hell, I'd know who to call. =)
Apart from that you do have a good voice, but it doesn't sound as
"clean" (in lack of a better word) as a traditional opera voice.

Thank you for sending us your application and good luck with your
singing in the future.

Thanks for all of you who were pulling for me. I still have an audition for Elis floating around out there, maybe somethng will come of that. If not, I'll be looking for players to start my own new original band in the symphonic/progressive/metal genre. Think Leaves' Eyes meets Porcupine Tree with a little Lacuna Coil thrown in.

Uh, you know, I haven't been all that active lately, and Tilted Music is an area I visit with less frequency as it is, so I totally missed this. That's pretty darn cool that you made it to the top 5 while auditioning for Therion. Actually, wish I had known they were holding auditions...maybe I would have pointed onodrim in their direction too :P

Congrats on your relative success in the auditions, and good luck on the future pursuits :)

That's awesome that you tried out for Therion. You should try out for Lost Horizon, they've been looking for a replacement for a while now :(

Their old lead singer was a guy, but I think women sound better singing power metal anyway (Dark Moor - Silver Lake -- amazing song). Plus, Lost horizon needs to make new albums because I've been empty inside ever since they announced their singer quit :(

divagrrrl 02-12-2007 03:46 PM

Lost Horizon... I have not heard of them. I'll have to check it out.

absorbentishe 02-13-2007 08:18 AM

That's cool you made the top 5! Too bad you weren't the rockstar, Therion. Good luck on the next one...

divagrrrl 02-13-2007 08:28 AM

@CyCo PL -
Lost Horizon: Pretty cool music, very well produced. I think the screamy male vocals make it sound a bit too dated, very 80's. I would love to hear this music with a female vocalist. Only problem is that most of the songs I listened to are written in a bad key for a female power vocalist.

I may attempt it anyway, but only if a true fan of theirs such as youself thinks they would be open to the idea of a woman. Where are they on the search, anyway? Seems they have been w/o a singer for quite some time now?

divagrrrl 02-28-2007 08:55 AM

Heh... now it appears that Tristania lost their singer and are in need of a new one. I'm not familiar with this band. Anyone else here know them?

Halx 02-28-2007 09:13 AM

I have a couple of their albums, but I've never heard them.

Funny huh?

The life of a serial MP3 leecher.

Jadey 03-02-2007 02:10 PM

I've heard a little bit of their stuff (I too am a bit of a serial MP3 leech). Comparing them too Therion, based on the 6 tracks I've heard, I'd say they rely a little more on the classical music as an undertone but overall are kind of similar. The lead vocalist reminds me an awful lot of Peter Steele from Type O Negative and there is the operatic female backing vocal. From what I've heard the description of your voice above, "coloratura notes from hell" would seem to me to fit quite well. They have one song titles "Beyond the Veil" that I absolutely love.

Good luck if you pursue it. It sounds like you are awfully talented so it may be just a matter of finding the right match.

tristania is a great band. they definitely have similarities to therion, operatic/goth type metal, with male clean and death and female vocals. I think they've been through quite a few members, but every album comes out just as good, though I have to admit I haven't heard their last one or two, I should get on that.

divagrrrl 03-06-2007 01:28 PM

I am recording a demo for them tomorrow. I have a good feeling about this one.... I think I am due some good luck for a change. :p

Well... I DID have some good luck recently... I signed on with a Swedish producer to record a CD with him, but it is not a touring project, and I really want to tour. If I get the Tristania gig, it will not interefere with that project at all. So I am gonna go for it! :D

sends good vibes to the sweet melisa........

you're due girl with that voice.

divagrrrl 03-08-2007 09:08 AM

WHEW... ok I recorded a little of their stuff yesterday. Had to cut the session short because the engineer's cat was deathly ill and he needed to take it to the vet. Recorded female vocal parts to "Down" and "Mercyside."
Burned it, printed the package, and it is going off in today's mail.

*crosses fingers*

So those of you who know of Tristania.... how do they sell? What kind of draw do they have?

Dilbert1234567 03-08-2007 09:32 AM

I liked Tristania in high school i still listen to it now and again, some of there stuff i like a lot.

in the US... they don't. I don't think they've EVER toured here. In Europe I'm not so sure, they must do decently, but they're not as big as, say, Nightwish.

divagrrrl 03-12-2007 08:16 AM

You guys are not gonna believe this.....

Someone on a message board in Brazil has posted links to my Nightwish demos, stating that I was the new chosen singer and my demos had leaked. The rumor has spread like wildfire and I am having little luck trying to put it out. I added an update to my audition blog on myspace, and registered at one of the boards the refute that statement. Hopefully it will die down sooon.

I think mail to Norway takes about 10 days... I sent my Tristania audition laast Thursday, so i still have a long long wait before I can hear anything back.

Dilbert1234567 03-12-2007 08:31 AM

good luck

Hi Diva!

My name is Daniel Realpe, I´m from Colombia.

I heard that the guys from Therion split, only Christopher stays, obviously.

I´m a guitarist, been playing for almost 13 years and I LOVE their music and the way Kristian plays.

So, I was looking for a way to contact them, you know, in case he is holding auditions, so I stumbled into your post.:)

My question is: How did you contact them for your audition? Could you help me out with an email or a phone number?

I would thank you for this forever :)

see you!

Daniel

my email is dacarero@hotmail.com
