Arabic music?
Hello, recently I started getting interested in arabic music styles - including the Maqam style. I was wondering if anyone here listens to much music like this and can make recommendations?
Also, I play guitar and was wondering if anyone has links to pages for learning some sample Maqam melodies..? |

Whoa, okay, you're talking about hardcore classical stuff. I came in here thinking I could recommend popular stuff to you. (6arab.com and mazika.com are great sources for music new and old, and most arabic music makes at least some use of the arabic modes... i'm not sure how great it is as learning material though.
This site, though, will probably tell you all you ever needed to know (and then some) about the Arabic maqamaat: http://www.maqamworld.com/ |

Oh man, I got into Arabic music recently (past couple of years along with Middle East and Indian music in general) and really enjoyed listening to it while in Egypt this summer.
I don't know if you can play it on guitar though. I always thought it utilized a different tuning than the western scale. |
