Tom Waits Tour
Anyone else been to any of the Tom Waits shows? I went to the Memphis show last night. It's been almost 30 years since he's been here. It was the first show in Memphis that I've been to where it wasn't a social seen. OK there were a few people who were there "to be seen" but overall the man held the audience captive for two hours.
I can only say that his show is rivetting. It is an incredible example of what you can do with a handful of musicians and the simplest of instrumental setups. It helps to have an arsenal of stage hands and sound technicians to make you sound good ... but it really was just a very simple setup. |

Now that would be a concert I would like to see... sadly I don't think he's coming here.

I saw Waits in '99 when he came to Toronto, and it was the best concert I have ever seen. I would JUMP at the chance to see him again. He is hands down my favorite artist, and without a doubt one of the coolest people on the planet...

I've always loved his early stuff, unfortunately I was born in 1974, so not much of a chance for me to catch him then. I went to the Louisville show. And it was of course, a great show. The song selection was much worse (for my tastes) than when I saw him (in 99?) in Chicago. It says something about an artists, when they can only play 1 or 2 of your favorite 50 songs of theirs. |

I didn't actually know that Waits is touring. Seeing Tom play live is on my list of things to do before I die. Or before he dies in this case, I suppose.
