A music review
So i've bought something like 75 albums in the last 9 months. i buy cd's like girls buy shoes. and seeing as i'm sitting here waiting for my easter ham to cook i'm going to try and list them all with the ratings i think they merrit.
haven't really done anything like this before. so let's go with the 0 - 10 scale. i guess i should try and do it alphabetically, so i'm going to throw all the data into a spreadsheet. any feedback would be hot. i guess i should mention that my tastes are pretty eclectic but lately i've mostly listening to 'indie rock'. ok well i've started the catalogue, looks like we're going to try about 130 albums to start with. wish me luck

i haven't tried to review all the jimi hendrix, velvet underground, or santana albums i have, i'll have to do that sometime but i don't usually listen to those as discreet albums. i guess my motivation for doing this is to find more new music. if you look over the list and things i haven't mention come to mind that, based on what i have posted, you think i may enjoy please put a word in.

You've got Of Montreal, but the rest of the E6 might be worth looking at. Neutral Milk Hotel, The Apples In Stereo, Olivia Tremor Control, Ladybug Transistor, Elf Power, My First Keyboard... the list goes on. I'm pretty sure they have a website, but I'm too lazy to look it up just now.
EDIT - And you gave Plans a low rating, but you might check out some earlier DCFC. Try You Can Play These Songs With Chords.. a lot of folks prefer that sound, as it's less commercialized.

I think I have the whole DCFC library but only plans on cd. i like songs here and there but I guess emo just isn't my thing. I saw them live and it was one of the weaker concerts i've been to.
I know I need neutral milk hotel and I will pick that up. Are the rest of those recommendations similar stuff? thanks

If you like gy!be, you might like Mogwai. They're like gybe for those with ADD, as their songs are closer to the 4-6 minute mark.
Of Montreal's Sunlandic Twins is great despite being quite sugary. Chutes Too Narrow deserves a much better rating. But that's just my opinion. Ever listen to the Dismemberment Plan? Ted Leo? Super Furry Animals? Belle & Sebastian? Not actually sure that any of them are your type of music but thought I'd mention them anyway.

well dcfc are definately better than that trash. i mean they've got some really good tunes, but i just felt the overall quality of this last album was lackluster and the concert was a let down so i'm sure that didn't help my overall opinion. and now i can hear my roomate fucking his girlfriend. just what i needed.
mogwai is decent I know, they just played down the streat (logan square auditorium) a couple weeks ago but it was sold out. I have heard some dismemberment plan but I don't have any full albums. I'll be seeing ted leo and the pharmicists this summer at pitchfork but again no albums. any particular recomendations for those two bands? i definately really like some of what belle and sebastian do. i know I've heard of super furry animals but I can't say whether i've actually heard anything they've done. chutes is a really good cd. maybe i've just heard too much of it. when i find a little time I intend to add some comments for alot of the more 'obscure' stuff in the list and to also expand it. i think i have another 200 or so albums that aren't in there... should be fun. and please anyone else who feels like contributing should. i just wish there was a better way to format it all.

The Elephant Six Collective (the E6 mentioned above) is a pretty famous indie circle. I mentioned the most famous bands and those are definitely the ones to start with.
I've always found with indie music you're getting a mixed bag. The E6 is a lot more coherent than the rest of the genre, but I wouln't say they're all the same style precisely.

I'd get Menomena - I am the fun blame monster. It's pretty awesome. Also anything by Okkervil River, especially black sheep boy or don't fall in love with everyone you meet. The Unicorns are some good weird poppy indie, and their new project (since they broke up) Islands is really really good, and much more accessible than Unicorns.
