Steve Reich anyone?

I haven't heard a particularly large amount by him, but what I have is hypnotising. One of my favorite things by him is 'Piano Phase', because of the fantastic range of blends that comes out of something so relatively simple.

Also the fact that stuff like 'Bleed Out' seems to have had political as well as musical significance is just so clever. I should be performing 'Clapping Music' with a friend in a concert in a couple of months....Anyone else like this guy?

Not for everybody but I like it, actually really only got into him in the last few months or so.

I performed Electric Counterpoint in concert with a large group of guitarists/bassists. It was an amazing piece of music. I enjoy a lot of his writing but still, have not heard the majority of his work.

Just a few feeks ago, In Dublin, we had a Steve Reich 'musical celebration', with lots of his work being performed over the course of a weekend.
Hearing 'Music For 18 Musicians' performed live by the Ensemble Moderne was the musical highlight of my life.

Some of my favorite works by Steve Reich:
Music For 18 Musicians
Drumming
Electric Counterpoint
Different Trains
Tripple Quartet
Six Pianos

Also worth checking out is a CD called 'Reich Remixed', where Reich's work is remixed by various pop music artists such as Coldcut and DJ Spooky. Some of the tracks aren't so great, but over all it is a very interesting album.

i am a big fan of reich-n-roll
(sorry...a joke for the residents.....o no..sorry again)

mostly the pieces prior to music for 18 musicians, tho. particularly the tape pieces
(i especialy like "come our"--got to open the bruise up and let the bruise blood come our to show them....")
and drumming---which you can get in its entirety on dg...an excellent recording in every way.

i'd be interested in hearing specific stuff about pieces after music for 18 musicians, though--i just haven't had the occasion to check much of his newer stuff out. help me sort, please.

I'd reccommend Electric Counterpoint which he did with Pat Metheny. You can buy it on CD with Different Trains perfomed by the Kronos Quartet, which is also a very interesting piece.

I second (or is it third) the recommendation of Electric Counterpoint. That was my Reich intro and still love it.
