(from Ferrari Press Release) With the release of the 599 GTB Ferrari is presenting its most powerful V12-engined production car of all time.

Amedeo Felisa, Ferrari's Vice General Manager will announce today at the Detroit Motor Show the birth of the latest model developed in Maranello.

The new car is a concentration of Ferrari's most innovative and technologically advanced engineering solutions applied to a mid-front engined two-seater coupé. The result is a new benchmark for performance, driver involvement and design.

The Ferrari 599 GTB boasts class-leading power thanks to its 5,999cc V12 - derived directly from the Enzo Ferrari supercar - which produces no less than 620hp at 7,600 rpm for a weight/power ratio of just 2.6 kg per horsepower.

Ferrari has adopted the latest evolution in its tried and tested all-aluminium construction technology for the body and chassis.

The unmistakable Pininfarina design gives the Ferrari 559 GTB aggressive yet elegant lines which are perfectly integrated with the advanced aerodynamic solutions adopted to reach the performance figures attainable.

This new model is the symbol of Ferrari's production - the V12 berlinetta - and represents the latest interpretation of a theme that has seen such classics as the 250 GT, the 275 GTB, and the 365 GTB4.

The Ferrari 599 GTB replaces the last in that great line of berlinettas, the 575M Maranello, of which - together with the 550 Maranello introduced in 1996 - no fewer than 5,700 have been produced, a record for this type of model for the Prancing Horse.

The new car will be officially unveiled on the 28th of February 2006 at the Geneva Motor Show.

very extremely nice. It kinda reminds me of Ferrari's great implementation on their own cars of what Porsche did with the Cayman ...except this Ferrari has the power right out of the box.

I'll have to look up that power claim though: "most powerful V12-engined production car of all time". I'm thinking the F1 McClaren outdid this thing in that regard.

It looks nice and I'll always be a ferrari guy, but I have to say that I like current lambo's better. Not that I'll ever afford any of them anyway.

i think the mclaren put out 627hp, which is right with this V12... the F1 was just freakin light... around 1000 lbs lighter than this Ferrari (the berlinettas have never been lightweights)

Well if this one is "only" 620hp and the F1 is 627, Ferrari lied in that press quote above. I won't buy my car from a liar, I'm cancelling my order until they apologize

Lightness of being ...I've learned that reasonably low weight is so important for overall performance of a sports or GT car.

I wish I could get my car way under 3000lbs; it performs pretty damn good considering it weighs almost 3600lbs ...basically a fat pig.

At my weekend job (at a broadcast network) I'm used to finding a wide variety of cars in the parking deck. They usually range from my POS Saturn to a hummer or Volvo s-80.

Last weekend, I went to the deck to get my lunch from my car while a financial advice show was on. The host's car was in the deck. A yellow Lambourghini Mercialogo (SP?).

Holy kats. I looked it over but was afraid to come too close. A breath on it would inflict more damage than my car is worth.

You're right, it's better than any 'american muscle', it can go fast in a straight line as well as corners, unlike the 'american muscle'.
I believe Tech was referring to the 'prancing horse' that Ferrari uses for a marque.

The GT40 is goregous though ziadel, especially in the Gulf colors, and it put old Enzo in his place back in the day. Can't get enough of that car.
