2006 VW Golf Mark V R32

from UltimateCarPage

It was the most powerful Golf ever. The Golf R32 powered by a 241 bhp engine was first launched in August 2002. Not only was it one of the hottest cars on the road, it also sold like hot cakes: three times as many R32's were sold than originally planned. These are excellent prospects for its successor.

Now comes a new R32 based on the Golf V generation. This time it packs 184 kW (250 bhp) under the bonnet; the permanent 4MOTION four-wheel drive again promises excellent roadholding. The new model will see its world premiere at the 59th Frankfurt Motor Show (15 to 25 September). Presales in Germany start on 19 August. Market launch will be at the end of September. Prices for the new Golf R32 start at €32,200.

Is it just me or does this not have quite the visual impact of the Mark IV R32?

It's not just you. The new Jettas and Golfs look too much like Corollas.

Certainly the first R32 was far more aggressive in its styling and visual impression. This one seems too tall, somehow. Like they should have added a couple more inches of flare to the arches or something. I like the specs though, and apparently the drive is excellent.

Don't like it at all, and am I the only person on the face of the planet that hates how most new car radios are molded into the heat controls and/or navigation? I guess it's just me because I would never leave a shitty stock radio in my car.

it is pretty bad but you can normally get the double din replacements now that will fill the hole the POS standard stereo leaves

i loved the old R32, and this one is sweet too, my only problem is that it performs somewhere between a WRX and an STi, but costs as much as an STi... i might buy one for $28-29k

What's the deal with this style of body? Toyota Matrix, Pontiac Vibe, now the Golf, and I'd bet a good deal of other makes have this exact same damn body style... did they all pool together and say "let's find a body style that really works and then we'll ALL do it" or what? I mean, it's nice because it's functional and the cargo space is amazing, but why, why must they all look like each other? I can usually tell a VW from a 'Yo from a Pontiac, but when it comes to these, I've actually got to look at the emblem/style of the grille!

Oh well... VW's don't look much like VW's any more anyway. I'll stick to the 90's...

/rant off
