Not even registered and I already have a few problems.

This is about that 91 Mark VII LSC I mentioned in another thread.
You sholdn't need all the info, but here it is:
LSC trim
5.0 HO V8
AOD 4-speed
Analog dash
TripMinder console, overhead thermometer and compass, but no sunroof.

Here's the list:

-Air bag system is shorted (not a do-it-myself, so I'll rely on a seatbelt and a piece of electrical tape for now.)
-After starting, car beeps until I hit "1" on the TripMinder console
-Overhead display (compass, thermometer) doesn't work, may be a fuse
-Fog lights are supposedly blowiong a lot of bulbs. I'll be checking the connections for shorts and proper voltage.

The second one is bugging me the most, but it may just be some dumb setting I have to figure out.

A friend of mine has owned two Mark VIIs and I had its cousin (Thunderbird Turbo Coupe), so I've encountered plenty of odd electrical problems!

1. Does the cruise control work? It's fairly common for the clock spring to break, which kills the airbag and usually (but not always) the steering wheel-mounted cruise buttons. In the mean time I wouldn't sweat it too much, those cars weigh nearly 4000 pounds!

2. Does it give any error messages in addition to the beeps? There's a fairly common problem involving a ground wire that corrodes and causes an intermittent connection to the fuel sending unit. Sometimes this causes the Tripminder to get screwy and think you're out of gas. Check out this page: http://www.bwdautomotive.com/datastr...eam/page4.html

3. Yep, check your fuses. Also the contacts in the buttons that turn those displays on/off tend to get corroded over time and you have to press them like 20+ times to wear off the gunk, you might give that a shot too.

4. Make sure that the lights are sealed up so that no water can get inside. If there's any water or rust inside, put some clear silicone around the seams.

Yea, That Beeping, is irretating as hell.. Ive had two Lincoln Continentals..

My Old one, 89 Mark VII, that had mad beeping problems.. It would beep everytime I started because we removed the Air ride suspension and put in a Taurus suspension.. This one my 94 Continental.. Beeps rarely.. but its cause of the oil sensor, seems to be a loose connection or a dirty sensor it just dies sometimes

Thanks for the help. I'll try out some of that stuff later today.

For the airbags what is the piece of electrical tape for?

Yeah, but I'd rather (eventually) have an airbag in front of me in my daily driver. I'll probably throw down some cash to have it looked at before school starts again.

I'm still trying to find some time to try that ORG wire fix for the tripminder. I brought it into the garage at work and got under it the other day, but didn't have much time to look at it, and I didn't have the article with me so I was looking for a wire rather than the fuel level sender itself.

The overhead display is dead, but the lights work, and I'm not sure what's up with that, but I'll probably just tinker with it when I have some time.

The fog lights aren't getting any power, but the switch is fine. Apparently one kept blowing bulbs and the other didn't work, so I'm guessing a wire got crossed and was sending 24 volts to one and nothing to the other. I may just gut the system and run my own wiring to lights of my choice.
