private seller factory warranty question
If I buy a barely used car from a private party is the factory warranty still good for me? How does the transfer work and does it vary by manufacturers?
I'm thinking about buying a used Honda for the wife.

I'll have to doublecheck my warranty book at work on Tuesday, but most manufacturers basic warranties do transfer to the new owner. Some manufacturers have extended powertrain coverage or may be a certain length for original owner and then subsequent owners get lesser coverage. It does vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, and in some cases from year to year or model to model. IIRC Honda has a 4 year 48,000 warranty across their product line that is transferable. What year and model are you looking at?

Hopefully the owners manual and warranty information are still with the car. That will be your definitive source for information. Usually, the warranty starts the day the car is first sold and continues through the term regardless of who owns the car.

She wants a 2003 or 2004 Pilot. What's IIRC? I thought Honda's only had a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty and Acuras had the 4 year warranty.
