Neon vs. LED under car kits

Just would like to hear from people who have seen both personally (not what you've read). Is there any difference visually and do you recommend one over the other?

How about brand? Street Glow (Glo?) seems to be pretty popular.

LED never burn out and are brighter

I would go for LED over Neon...even if it cost more (you get what you pay for)

I would go with the LED as well. I must be out of the loop on these things but when I was customizing cars in the 90's, we didn't have LED kits. I was always afraid of putting neon tubes underneath my car in fear that they would get hit by a rock.

Both of them are illegal and just plain silly. Don't be that guy.

From what I understand they are only illegal if you can see the bulbs while driving. That's what someone told me who had them on his car (tucked up underneath the frame somewhere, I didn't inspect it.) Granted, I could be completely wrong, and I'm sure the laws will vary from state to state.

I stand corrected. I would assume most states follow what I pulled up, (this is specifically for MN.)

If you really want a kit get the street glow gold neon kit. Its the highest quality kit and its warranteed for anything including breaking the tube. So if it burns out or if a rock hits it, it will be replaced. I've had good success returning brokent items to street glow. It's pretty painless.

Not in canada.....it might be but the cops here don't give a shit about some lights. Lots of people here have blue front turn signals and never got a ticket and I have been driving my van aroudn with no front bumper for 8 months now.

Illegality depends on where you live, and how cool the cops are around your location. Around here, if you have em turned on when you're parked and engine off, no one's gonna bother you. But if you drive with them on, be prepared to face the consequences.

Back on the primary subject, I say go for LEDs over Neons any day. The only downside to LEDs is that the beam of light can be more narrow when compared to neons, although it's been awhile since I've had a clean look at either one.

Thanks for the replies. They are illegal on state roads here, and then only if you are in motion.

Im definately going with LED now, http://www.autodirectsave.com/under_...ght_lights.asp looks pretty good (the multi-color one) but Im looking for a more professional looking (trustworthy) site.

Any recommendations? Street Glow is a bit pricy... I want to make sure they are good, but I haven't seen anything else over $200 but them

Just got the LED's in that I linked from eBay. Aside from being a bigger pain in the ass than I had expected to install, they are great. I love the look.

One issue I ran into was the passenger side tube hangs slightly below the side of the car (but not the lowest part) because of the structure under my car; it was impossible to hide. The other issue was the chord that needs to run from under the hood to the dash for the control panel had a huge (2 in. wide) plug on the end making it very difficult to run under the dash. I ended up finding a nice little path to bring it in by going under the hood and through the driver door, completely hidden.

Their busting guys left right and centre for blue marker lights and under car neon here in Calgary. That's if they aren't giving tickets for having an enlarged tailpipe.
