What's impressive, and telling about the engine's powerband, is that it gets to 60mph in first gear that fast. Imagine slightly lower gearing! I think the only thing I really find disappointing is the torque number. You can definitely tell that the HP was gained through a flat torque curve, and high revs. The torque peak really should top 500 ft lb as well. I imagind that the torque curve is flat, though, and that's a good thing.

I love it, and I love how Chevy continues to provide value with the Vette, instead of only performance. i know, somebody will be on here soon enough saying that it only costs $65k because the entire interior is made of tuperware or that it doesn't handle as well as a Ferrari, or some other nonsense, but really it's a pretty fantastic car and the fact that they're still tweaking an older style powerplant is kind of cool.

I'm curious to see the 1/4 mile numbers. I'm sure the braking stats would also be amazing. |

I know it's an old topic...shoot me. But, GM broke a record with this new engine. It's the fastest a pushrod engine has ever been spun in a production car. Redline is 7100 revs!

Who had a production PUSHROD engine 38 years ago that spun 6800 revs? Either way, it's a record, I guess. I'm jsut curious.

The 1966 L72 (427 BB), 1970 LT-1 (350 SB), and several other solid lifter engines were also up around 6500 rpm. I only know Chevy engines. Other manufacturers might have had competing designs. New engines are vastly improved, though. The old ones with redlines this high usually had poor torque curves, and required constant tuning to keep in spec. |

Wow...things I didn't know. I'm not as up on the old stuff as I'd like to be. That's amazing that they spun the L88 that fast. An engine that big with old school stuff...that's where the 635HP came from, no doubt.
