License Plates

What's the justification of requiring a plate on the front of your car? I live in KY and we don't have them, nor does Indiana.

I would think it would be near impossible to read a front plate in your rear-view mirror so I just don't see the reason for it.

Crazy

Front plates allow a motorist or a pedestrian to identify a vehicle from the front. If you needed to get the plate number off of a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction, the only way would be the front plate (assuming you are in another car).

PS, as a car guy... I think they should be optional as they tend to disrupt the lines of well-designed vehicles.

Insane

I know Texas requires plates on both the front and back of the vehicle, but I haven't had a front plate on my car since I bought it around March and I have a few friends who haven't had a front plate on their car ever. I figure it is just one of those things that if they pull you over, they'll just add it to your ticket.

Of course, as has been stated before, the only real reason to have them is for identification. Especially when you have to do traffic analysis on an intersection it is nice to be able to read the license plates on the vehicles coming towards you.

I was in the car when a friend was pulled over for having a Euro plate instead of a CT plate. It happens.
