Finally a new ride.

It took me long enuff to get a new car (9 months looking) and on the last day of class at school i picked up my new ride. 1987 Mazda RX-7 Turbo II. Burgundy with burgundy/brownish interior. 107k nice car. Body is really good, couple scratches and such, new tires etc. I love the car, cept that it gets like 14 mpg, damn rotaries. Ill have pics soon.

Congrats! It looks to be in really good condition for an '87 car. The previous owner must not have driven it very much....comes out to about ~6k miles/year. Nice find.

Nine months of looking? You sure have lots of patience! I usually give it about a month of searching and would have to settle for the best deal I can find.

Enjoy the new ride!

the previous owner drove it a total of 2k in the past year. damn near brand new yokohama tires all around. He took pretty darn good care of it too, i have all the service records. As for the nine monhts of looking, it was no party. Because i go to school in a small town ( i live in milwaukee normally, but i live in whitewater for college during the schoolyear). Its hard to find any good cars, and the winter season sucks for cars in WI. Im pretty happy with it, i just gotta start to do some mods. (note i will not be ruining the car with ricey wings and such)

Congrats. The FC is a beautiful design. :)
What are your plans? Boost controller? Larger intercooler?

GetRdone 05-11-2005 09:21 AM

well, my plans are paced with my cash, luckily i have a lil extra saved right now. First im gonna try to get out of emissions, which will allow me to do my exhaust mods. Probably run a 2.5" downpipe, 2.5" test pipe, then 3" single exhaust. The dual is cool but its more weight and the y pipe is a bit restrictive. These cars LOVE free exhaust flow. I wanna get some gauges of course, since my stock boost gauge doesnt always work. Im working on tryin to get some sponsers to help with the bigger mods. ID like to do a full rebuild with fd apex seals and such. t4 turbo with custom manifold would be nice to. Of course ill be doin a boost controller and fuel cut defender, and im gonna be custom making a front mount ic setup (friend of mine is a mechanic with welding equipment). I also am looking into a group buy for microtech fuel management, so i can run 760cc injectors (after the other mods, they would be WAAY to big for stock). As for exterior itll be mostly stock, except tint, a slight lowering and 17" flat black 5 spoke wheels with toyo proxes 4 tires. Im sure ill wanna add more, but so far thats my ideal setup. Sadly without a sponser the rebuild and bigger turbo are a lil more out of the question..

I was looking at a 82 last year, but porbably a good thing I didn't buy it....but I also don't know which year of them engine is junk!

merkerguitars 05-17-2005 03:08 PM

Thats a wisconsin car? Damn your lucky....the previous owned must of babied that thing.

userasdf1234 05-17-2005 03:31 PM

great find. After a few of the mods you listed, i would suggest getting some suspension to give the car a more solid feel. Nothing beats some hard turns!

Good find, that should be a fun car.

I sometimes meet RX7 turbos and even NA's of that vintage at the track and when properly maintained and set up, they run very well. This is road courses not drag strips. One in particular has been extensively lightened and with adjustable coilovers all around and a good alignment and corner weighting, he is damn quick around the twisties and plenty of power in the straights. The mods you're planning should really make it come alive. Good luck with it.
