Gas Prices in Japan
Well, I am 10 min. back from filling up my VW Golf (yes, Golf, not Land Cruiser) and it just cost me $67.00. Holy moly!!! This is with regular unleaded fuel. Basically the American dollar and Japanese Yen are pretty close, so for agruements sake let's say they are even.
I live in the country, in the middle of Japan where they say it costs more to get gas here because we don't live near any ports, so it would be a little cheaper in Tokyo. $1.35 for regular/litre $1.45 for premium/litre I am not complaining but just shocked. I used to pay $50 for a fill up 2 weeks ago. I just can't believe the jump. Maybe I should start thinking about a hybrid in the future. Oh ya...diesel is $1.00/litre. Thanks for letting me sound off. Have a great week everyone.

Gas is extraordinarily cheap in North America.
Those days are coming to an end tho, Americans and Canadians. Get ready for it.

yeah, I paid over 60 bucks for gas...but that was in my two-tank pick-up. So, I probably have a bigger tank than a Golf.
But as soon as I graduate, I get a hybrid Prius! *happy dance*

Get a vw diesel, better gas mileage and diesel is lower priced over there. And if your lucky you can buy a Volkswagen Lupo, which gets over 80mpg on diesel.

Gas is mainly cheap in America because it isn't taxed to death like most other places, namely Europe. Also, buying up to save gas money is rarely efficient.

I would have agreed with you a few years ago. I biked to work everyday, even during the typhoon season. I enjoyed it UNTIL, in a six month span I was hit 3 times by cars. I didn't bike on the sidewalk but on the road with the traffic and cars went through the stop signs and hit me. The last one, I did a Jackie Chan right over the front hood and spent a week in the hospital with a herniated disk. I'm still not 100%. So bascially for me, I came to the conclusion that 3 strikes your out and I bought a cheap used car. Also, I am in a small town in Nagano-ken. Basically the boondocks of Japan. There is no 7/11, video rental store, game centers, shopping. Only a small supermarket. I have to go the the next town for everything else. Anywho, gas is expensive.

In England its currently costing around 79.9pence to 80p a LITRE (or liter as per U.S. Spelling) - we converted to litres to "be in line with europe" which no-one wanted, but thats another story...
This means around $1.52 a litre (at current money conversion to $US) There are about 4 litres to a gallon, which makes the price an amazing $6.08 a gallon! We then pay "road tax" at about $300 a year (not including insurance etc), and it now costs me £5 or $9 a day to drive into London during the week. The government tax the shit out of us.... you guys better get used to it coz its coming to you soon.

Public transport is not cheap, and its smelly and dirty and full of scumbags most of the time. Also London covers 874 square miles - public transport would take forever to get anywhere keep changing trains, waiting for buses in the rain etc
