Chevy Water Pump Problem

My Dad has a 1994 Silverado. He is on his second engine, chevy 5.7 OEM, and his truck makes this funny noise when you get on the gas. It sounds like umm... like the gurgling from one of those office water coolers. it stops when your just cruising. He loses about 1 gallon of coolant a week and thinks it might be the water pump has a bad bearing. i'm kinda the mechanic for my family, and i'd like to help. if you have had similar problems or know what is going on, please post it.
Thanks

It's possible, because the water pump is designed to leak out of a weep hole behind the pulley when the bearing goes bad. If it's leaking that fast you should definitely be able to see it dripping or at least smell it under the hood. Are you able to spot any leaks?

Hopefully it's not a head gasket. I had the exact same thing happen to my car a few years ago (POS Ford 3.8 V6). I was losing coolant because it was seeping into the cylinders and being burned (you can often see this as white smoke out of the exhaust), and exhaust gases were also being blown into the cooling system which made it gurgle and bubble out of the overflow tank. Drive it around for a while then shut the engine off and see if the tank is bubbling, if so that's not a good sign.

look for a colant leak at the back of the tinake manifold where it meets the head. look for a leak at the water hose on the right side of te tinake near the front. look for a leak in the front of the intake int he corner of the head and block.

next you are most likely hearing air move though the heater core. air bubles in e system like to get caught there and when accelerating the waterpunp spins faster causing more flow through the heater. bleed the cooling system and find your leak.

Check you oil and coolant. If either one shows signs of mixing, you've lost your head gasket.

Wow a gallon a week and you don't see any pooling on the ground?
