S-10 Den

I love trucks, and for my money you can't beat a chevy(if your going american). I own an S-10, a very popular vehicle these days, and like most i often have questions. This Thread is for S-10 owners with questions about mechanical or cosmetic problems or upgrades. Please no "S-10's suck BALLS!" posts or the like, flamers can just not post, why are you looking anyway.
P.S. Please don't garble up the thread with lowrider s-10's, though popular, this thread is for the more tradional performance oriented or off-road s-10 lovers. :D

My first problem is this, has anyone done a full V-8 Conversion before. I wish to transplant a 350H.O. into my 1997 2wd s-10

www.s10forum.com is what i used when i had an S-10... those guys knew just about everything... there is an entire forum devoted soully to V-8 conversions... you'll probably find more info there :)

I like the way the 95+ (or was it 94?) ones look. The only problem is they seem to cost too much used, and its like impossible to find one with extended cab, 2wd, 4.3, manual trans. Im not even sure if they made one in that combo, but thats what i would want.

IanSturgill 04-19-2005 11:32 AM

Thanx for the Site Tech.
They made a few in that combo, but not many. I bought a '97 4.3 LS Ext. cab for $8,000 with financing and everything. It's an auto, but with my 350, i'll put in a 4-speed or a powerglide.

an s10 with a v-8, and the original 700r4 auto make a really good driver that can also perform. The biggest problem with putting a 350 in a truck that new is that to keep it emissions legal you need to use a 97 or newer engine that has all the smog equip. still on it. That makes for a wiring nightmare for some one that hasnt done one before.

IanSturgill 04-19-2005 04:13 PM

I don't plan on making mine emmisions legal, i live i kentucky. Do you think i will have a problem with a summit crate engine.

maverick750 04-19-2005 04:16 PM

It is actually an easy conversion if you are useing a carbed engine. The main things you need are motor mounts, and radiator, and just small parts.

IanSturgill 04-19-2005 06:00 PM

Thats good. what should i do about the computer?

maverick750 04-19-2005 06:00 PM

you are still gonna need the computer for the trans.

IanSturgill 04-19-2005 06:06 PM

awesome, thanks!

Anyone, please feel free to post about your truck!

Nimisys 04-19-2005 06:48 PM

ehh the s10.. they make me money but not nearly enough given the amount of cursing that tends to get involved. not bad rigs, mine did well to the end, but they should have been replaced by the canyon/colorado 5 years ago witht he rest of the genIII trucks.

The brackets cost 200(USD) and well you better have a cherry picker and a shop to work in, I helped a buddy put a 400 small block in his 98 and well it took 5 weeks but we did have a problem with the headers he had on it and the pro shop sent the wrong tranny.

GM vehicles in general mantain a higher resale value than most other vehicles, especially their trucks and SUVs. They just don't depreciate in price as much as a Dodge or Ford. Why that is is beyond me, however I think quality has something to do with it. The S-10 is a very dependable and well made vehicle, as were the 90-98 C-1500s and Silverados, and just last longer than most comparable vehicles.

Scorps 04-21-2005 11:23 PM

I work witha guy who paid a good price for a used S-10, but I think 30K (CDN) is to much for a 2001

RaDiAn 04-22-2005 08:49 AM

Hey nice forum, thanks for site.

IanSturgill 04-28-2005 06:22 AM

has anyone ever seen performance rebuild kits for 4.3 chevys. i think i could squeeze out mabye 280hp if go all merker on it. mabye a centrifugal supercharger too.

IanSturgill 05-02-2005 07:05 AM

I have been wanting to convert the truck to disk brakes, and i was thinking about nabbing a ZR2 rearend and swapping it out, i would be putting in positive traction too.
