My new toy

With everyone else showing off the new cars they have purchased, I decided to go ahead and show off mine as well. I picked it up the beginning of last month, but I have been lazy in uploading pictures.

2001 BMW M5
Jet Black / Caramel Luxury Interior
6-speed manual
approx. 400 hp / 380ish lb/ft torque

After driving it for a month I can honestly say this is the only car that I have owned where I make excuses to go places just so I can drive it.

The M series is quite nice, especially the 2005 M5, GORGEOUS.

I have a 2002 525i and love it.

Good job on obtaining your toy.

My friend has an 2004 M3 that we've put a computer into, GPS, touchscreen LCD, etc. Lots of work, but well worth it. It's exciting that we were able to pull data from the Ibus system on the BMWs.

an m5 has been one of my dream cars for a while. It's so sleeper. I've only seen one in person, and now I'm a sad panda.

In town it is about 15 to 16 mpg. On the one highway trip I have taken so far I got 27.3 mpg according to the trip computer.

The M5 comes pretty much fully loaded unless you want a park distance controller or fold down rear seats. The 2001 BMWs don't have the Ibus system because I was hoping to move my Apline iPod adapter over to it. Instead I'll have to look into getting a Dension Ice Link, except then I can't use the CD changer (not that it really matters in the long run).

Yeah, I am a fan of manual transmissions and these only come in 6-speed manuals. The new M5s are only SMG right now, and that doesn't seem very sporting to me when you remove the clutch from a manual.

This has been my dream car since I first saw it come out, and when they finally got to a price that I could afford to buy one I did. I guess it is the joy of being single, cause once I'm married and have kids I might not be able to buy something like this again (of course, once they move out, ... but this is still far, far in the future).

Sure I'll see about snapping one

Here is a picture of the engine. Most of it is hidden by the air intakes and the plenum cover.
