OK, I am appealing to the Gods of Tilted Motors

Ok, I have a 1994 Volkswagen Jetta Gls 4DR Sedan. A couple of months ago my radio STB'd. Won't turn on at all. I tried the factory reset nothing. I want to replace it as easily as possible with a new radio. I took a look on ebay and found some nice ones including this baby.

So I did the whole see if this will fit your car thing on ebay and it came back stating that it didn't have enough info. I looked on cruthfield and they said it fits without the use of an installation kit. Now does this mean I don't need anything? I can just pull my dead one out, slide this in hook up some wires to some plugs and I am good to go? Could someone help me determine whether or not I need to buy anything else to get this to work?

Imagine that, the internet couldnt tell you how to do it. My advice as always:

1. Get off the computer and visit a specialist retailer
2. Look at as many different units as possible with a human sales persont that can help you decide wich CD player best fits your needs.
3. Touch them, listen to them, see them in person.
4. Let them professionally install it.
5. Enjoy your new CD player.

There is still value in human contact and brick and mortar retailers

Oh, yes there is a wire harness available for your vehicle. And it will fit the factory opening with no modification - but you will need special keys to get your radio out (and please dont try coat hangers)

Ok, Crutchfield can be an excellent guide to see what you need, sometimes you can find better prices, but whatever. If you order a reciever from them you get a regular plastic mounting kit(if needed) and a wiring harness(if needed) for free. you can go there, enter in your car info, and it will tell you what is out there that can fit it. sometimes getting the pros to do it can be quick and painless, but doing it yourself can be satisfying and cheaper.

ur right, dont try coathangers. I prefer the old crooked-style butterknives, or jewlers screwdrivers. Havent had one of those mounting things stop me yet. (note; im not stealing radios, i just end up having to take them out for friends.)

Yea, A butter knife, a small screwdriver, and some patience can get that radio out easily. Putting radios in is a breeze, but I can almost garauntee that you will need at least the wiring harness.

If youve done it enough, u can soldier the wires together urself. Its not hard, and since its usually really easy to find the wiring pinout for any car on the web. Never taken me more than like 45 minutes to put a radio in....unless the dash was being a real PITA.
