Very Nice.
The sedan is most excellent. Love the color.
By the way, that was Chevrolet? Are you positive?

The sedan is alright, I don't mind it really. The black one is ugly, the hood scoop is terrible in placement and in shape, it's just trying too hard to be in the fast and the furious.

I was browsing the chevy site and came to conclusion that it's just another bargain ricer like the Neon SRT.

Except that the numbers don't really impress me with these.

yeah, it's like 205 HP right? It looks ok, but IMHO it's like a lot of other import styled cars, and doesn't seem to have much in the way of its own character.

The sedan looks far nicer than the coupe. I think it'd be fun to run these up to 330HP or so, and go have fun!

Yeah, the sedan looks great considering it's supposed to be an economy-scale car.

If I was in the market for a new FWD 4-banger right now, as much as I love Hondas, I'd go for one of these. However, considering they cost within a couple grand of a Tacoma X-Runner, I'd go with one of those instead.

Apparently the ecotec SS engine is supposedly built up pretty good with forged components. I can't wait for someone to wrap one around a tree so I can pick up a 5 speed to put in my roomies GTP.

Paying over 20 grand for a revamped Cavalier with an SS badge seems just stupid as hell to me.

I'd just buy a Mazda 6 for two grand more.

The Cobalt is entirely different from the ground up, it's finally on a modern platform that's far better than the old J-body.

That said I think Chevy should have done more to make this apparent, as it sure does look like it's just a reskinned Cavalier.

yup, the cobalt is a totally new car from the cavalier, and its based on the same platforme as the ions, but the problems found on the ion have been tweaked and fixed. read up some reviews on it... C&D, Motortrend, Motorweek, and quite some other mags gave the SS supercharged great reviews, im usually not a fan of american cars but this one impressed me.

The sedan looks like a giant step forward for GM. The BMW'esque antenna on the roof is a cue that GM is not completly original, but making headway. The silly scoop and wing won't win buyers, as the demographic for that kind of stuff is too young to afford one.

the demographic that likes the wing and scoop is dumb enough to take 6yr financing, though.

I would also go for the sedan, that way you have the sleeper look and well cheaper insurance

Don't bet on that. Considering EVO VIIIs and STis sell like hot cakes and they are just a tad short of 30k and IMO they are both uglier than even this Cobalt. And the fact the SRT-4 sells well proves people will gladly pay 20k for a car like this.

Not my bag but hey at least they are wise enough to see that people want cars like this. Just too bad they won't get off their butts regarding the Camaro.

Shitty looking SSR? No. Far underpowered and overly heavy SSR? Yes.

EVO VIII and STi's are not to be compared to this particular vehicle. This is a car for someone who thinks they'd like an EVO or STi, but either has no idea what they're talking about or aren't willing to live with the compromises that come with owning the aforementioned EVOs and STi's. Please, please, please, don't compare something like the Cobalt, fine car that some critics think it is, with racing machines like the EVO's and STi'z of this world.

With that said, here is an article on the car, with a picture of the actual production car. A little different the pics that started this thread.

That was in response to the idea that people wouldn't buy a moderately fast car with a giant wing and a body kit for roughly 20k. That isn't true as people will spend 30k for a definately fast EVO or STi that LOOKS the same(i.e. giant wing, body kit, hood scoops). It's all a looks thing that I was trying to make a point on. I am well aware of those two cars racing heritages but if that look wasn't appealing to some people they would never sell. Fact is there are a bunch of people that like that look.

I like the sedan, but the 2 door... What is up with the dragster wing on the back, and the off placed WRX scoop. Like I said the sedan would be for me.

the supercharged one is attractive in my opinion. The domestic sport compact market usually doesnt compare to the imports, but i think there will be a good tuner response to this car. Id consider getting one, once i see how the fare after a year or so on the market.

Did they put a LS2 in that thing to?

I'm a fan of the sedan also but I like the wing on the coupe maybe i'm just still stuck in the tuner world. But leave the hood scoop off, I could have designed a better one in my sleep!

Yep. Rated at 385 horsepower so not sure if they've done something to it to bring down the HP rating or if they are just underrating it. They put the same engine in the new SS Trailblazer.

385? it should be 400+....humm maybe they did something to the computer, but a Trailblazer would be badass, always liked the Trailblazer ever sense they brought it back in like 2000.

Yeah they must have done something or they could just be doing a little bit of paper tuning and just saying it puts out 385 horses. I mean you wouldn't want to tick off those insecure Corvette and GTO owners.
