How close are you to owning your dream car?

So here I am, a freshman in college, and I'm already dreaming about the day that I'll be able to own the car of my dreams- a Porsche 911 Carrera.

I figure that a Ferrari or a Lamb is way out of my league but I think that if I work hard enough, I'll be able to get one some day.

1. What is your dream car? Porsche
2. Why? I've always loved the design and the fact that it turns heads. So yeah I'm an attention whore so what
3. How close are you to owning your dream car? College, dental school- and then I'll be set after a few years in practice, hopefully. So about 9 years give or take.
4. Do you honestly believe that it can happen? I don't see why not. Dentists make a lot of money, right? :-p

GetRdone 12-15-2004 08:38 PM

1. Dream car? Toyata Supra Twin Turbo..APU+++ all the mods etc, I like the '95 in particular, altough that whole 3rd generation of Supra's are the same.
2. Why? Its a Supra..........Some of the fastest street legal cars are supras, ive seen them run 9 second 1/4 miles, and make over 1000hp. Soo sexy.
3. How close to owning? Not very, freshman in college, advertising... Maybe after a good number of years, if i can get into a firm or something than ya...but i want to be an automotive reporter so its pretty far away if i go that route.
4. Can I see it happen? Not likely soon, chances are that in 2007 when the Skyline comes to the US, i might change my mind.

Willravel 12-15-2004 08:43 PM

1. Porsche GT2
2. It is a wonderful culmination of decades of respected heritage and one of the most respected cars from one of the most respected car companies in the world.
3. I'm maybe 7 to 10 years if I stay on track. I already have somewhere in the neighborhood of 30% of the final cost already saved.
4. I sure hope so. If not, the money can always go towards my daughters Phd.

mighty mouse 12-15-2004 08:48 PM

1. Dream car? 2004 575M -Red
2. Why? I love the sound.
3. How close to owning? ~10 years. My wife is almost done with law school.
4. Can I see it happen? Of course. Might be longer than 10 years, might be less. But someday I'll have one in the garage.

yellowgowild 12-15-2004 09:18 PM

1. 2005 volvo s40- BLACK
2. I love the wavy aluminum center console, it's safe, fast, and looks good.
3. Already own it. Had to cut back on eating a little.
4. I can see it being repossessed soon if I stop working 60 hours a week.

merkerguitars 12-15-2004 10:52 PM

Car Shelby Gt500 Eleanor Clone. I probably couldn't ever afford the real deal or be able to butcher a real shelby car to make an eleanor clone. Either I would have to pay for a very closely finished one, or make one from scratch, either way alot of work and probably about $50,000 to make one from scratch. My second dream car is a 1987 Buick gnx....lots of money also to own.

Dizzet 12-15-2004 11:33 PM

1. What is your dream car: Dodge challenger...
2. Why? because i love amarican muscle cars more than my own mother...
3. How close are you to owning your dream car? Well I could buy it but when im only 19 itīs not legal for me to drive a car with that many horse powers...
4. Do you honestly believe that it can happen? it just have to happen but ill have to wait many years if i want it here in denmark...

Um, I've got one of my dream cars.. however it's just sitting there awaitting a new engine and some more body work. It's an '86 Corolla GT-S coupe.. which may just get sold off to pay for parts for my other dream car when I get it this March. I'm looking at a mid 90's LS400/Celsior, the UCF20/21 models. Big ass slow VIP style ride.

So here's that fancy list thingy...
Corolla
1. What? 1986 Corolla GT-S Coupe
2. Why? Last rwd Corolla, rev happy twincam engine, near 50/50 weight distibution. Very fun to drive car, and major cult status symbol.
3. How close to owning? I have one right now, with quite a bit invested in it, but don't drive it.
4. Do I believe it can happen? Sure do, I was honestly looking for an LS400, but I just had to own this when I found it.

Now the LS400
1. What? 1995-98 Lexus LS400 or Toyotal Celsior depending on country.
2. Why? It's one of Toyota's top cars, basically a Benz clone that was better in almost every way. I love the big body look, the lines are very mature. A I'm a sucker for that tucked, slammed, blacked out VIP style.
3. How close to owning? Very close, my '88 Camry "Battle Wagon" is gonna die, the GT-S can make a me a nice profit and I need a newer car. So I will get one, it's just a matter of finding one.
4. Do I believe it can happen? Of course, it kinda has to happen or I won't have a running car. Plus, why not?

todd 12-16-2004 04:40 PM

I'm actually pretty damn close to owning my ideal car (note I didn't use the term 'dream car').
Just a '03 Ford Focus SVT.
I'll be buying one as soon as I can find a nice used one in my area.

Simply put, that's my ideal daily driver. I'll do a few mods to it, but for the most part, that car has everything I want in a car.

Now if I was insanely rich and felt like buying some cars, my list might include a '32 Ford Tudor Sedan, '01 BMW M-Coupe, '69 Boss 428, and many others :D
Most of those are pretty much out of the question, but when I retire and have some time, I want to build a '32 Tudor sedan or roadster. I think thats pretty possible, if the parts still exist when the time comes :)

1. What is your dream car? mint condition 91 CRX Si
2. Why? Ive had 3, and would like one to keep forever as a weekend car
3. How close are you to owning your dream car? Maybe 2 or 3 yrs away, just graduated from engineering, so I hope to buy a house with garage with a few yrs.
4. Do you honestly believe that it can happen? Yes with patience mint crxs (no rust, mint body, etc) can be found

Scorps 12-18-2004 06:42 PM

1. What is your dream car?240SX with all the mods(body kit, turbo and a rebuilt engine to put out at least 400HP if not more, all new drive tran, with a 6 speed trany, custom interor with a 4 sub system with 2000+ Watts and a roll cage is lots os neon and monitors, Lambo style doors, underglow(streetglow), and lots of carbon fiber, oh and can't forget the 18 inch low profile tires and rims)
2. Why?Ever sense I saw one done up at Dark Nights I have set my dreams to one day owning one the goes like stink.
3. How close are you to owning your dream car? Maybe 10 or 15 years away, but if I get married and have kids probably be a father son project....to long to wait.
4. Do you honestly believe that it can happen? YES if I get a promotion at work to move from the wearhouse to the office.

EDIT: Can't forget a direct-port NOS setup.

Lockjaw 12-18-2004 09:16 PM

1. What is your dream car?
I've got several but I'll just list the top three.
1) Boss 302 Mustang
2) 1978 Corvette g-Machine with competle modern suspension setup and engine.
3) 200x Mopar pony car
2. Why?
I'm a sucker for American muscle in all it's forms. The Boss 302 was possibly the most perfect example of a pony car I think think of. Fast could handle and looked wonderful. The 78 Vette because that was the year I was born, I love Vettes and they are the epitome of the American performance car. For 50 years Corvettes have been America's obtainable performer and ever since I was a kid I have liked them. 2000x Mopar pony car...this is just a rumor and I'm not sure if I'd even like it if they make it but the thoughts of a 400 horsepower 6.1 Hemi powered RWD 2+2 coupe that weighs in around 3400 lbs for around 28k would make my day. A perfect daily driver to enjoy during the week.

3. How close are you to owning your dream car?
Well not that close but not as far away as I once was.
Close to finishing up a degree so when I get a job in IT in 5-6 years I'll easily have the cash. The first may never be a reality as REAL Boss Mustangs are expensive and rare and a replica isn't really an option.
The second depends on getting a house first as that little project would be time consuming it would be a complete frame off restomod. Disk brakes at the four corners, coil over suspension, 18 inch wheels,383 stroker or the new all aluminum LS7 if it would fit, T-56 tranny...so on and so forth. Basically I want a car with all the power and comforts of 2000 with the looks of the 78. The cars aren't that pricey and the mods aren't THAT expensive it could all be done for likely mid 30s which is cheaper than a new Vette but it would take a while to get it all just right.
The Mopar pony car only depends on two things...Will they make it...will I like it. If both are affirmative THAT will likely be the one I'll have first. I want a modern day classic and I love the old school Mopars and with the new engines they have the best power potential and to become instant classics but if they screw it up I'll make do with a Special edition Mustang.

4. Do you honestly believe that it can happen?
Yeah all of them can happen. None of my dream cars are going to be insanely costly some of them are going to be rare but I don't have the desire for the Lamborghini or the Ferraris of the world so at some point unless I become a complete fuck up in life which I'm not counting on I'll have at least two of the three and then I can move on to other things.

1: What is your dream car?
Ferrari 575M
2: Why?
The power, the beauty, everything.
3: How close are you to owning it?
My family has $150k in mortgages and credit card debt.
4: Do you honestly believe that it can happen?
If anyone has the car, I've got a perfectly good soul I'll sell or trade. Otherwise, no.

AquaFox 12-19-2004 04:27 PM

realistic dream cars:

Ferrari 308 - $30,000

Porsche 356

real dream cars:

Ferrari F40, F50, Modena Spyder

bigd999 12-19-2004 05:25 PM

I honestly have too many dream cars to be able to pick just one....

Its all or nothin for me, and unless I win the lottery its porbably nothin

427 Cobra is a must

1. 1990 Lotus Esprit SE
2. Great buy with awesome performance and looks
3. It is parked in my garage
4. It did but it takes time and commitment - more so after you buy.

belkins 12-20-2004 06:55 PM

1. 1971 Lotus Europa S2
2. I've always loved the looks.
3. It's parked in my garage.
4. It took me 27 years from when I first saw one to actually purchase one but the wait was worth it!

The above comment about time and commitment, more so after you buy, really hit the nail on the head!!! I'm sure it has nothing to do with Lucas electronics though!

Psycho Dad 12-20-2004 07:49 PM

My dream car is something that doesn't use gas yet still does at least 70 mph without clocking it with a calendar. I think we're a few years off on that one.

What are the horsepower/age restrictions? Is it based on the class of vehicle? A subcompact car with 140hp would be quite fast, but that'd barely move a big truck. There aren't any laws like that in America, you can hop in a Porsche GT3 the day you get your license if you want.

brandon11983 12-20-2004 09:42 PM

1. 2003 BMW M5.
2. I've seen less of these than I have Ferrari's, Porsche's, Lambo's, Vipers. Its a VERY fast car and is ungodly comfortable to drive. It was designed to cruise at 150mph all day.
3. I suppose I could have one right now if I dropped out of school. Realistically probably 6 or 7 years away before I would/could buy one.
4. I have complete confidence that I could own one some day. By then though, the V10 M5 will be out...

BadNick 12-21-2004 07:12 AM

1. What is your dream car?
the new Porsche Carrera GT; I love lots of high performance cars, but that's my latest love fantasy.
2. Why?
the design, both aesthetically and functionally
3. How close are you to owning your dream car?
unlikely that I'll ever own one of those; too rare, too expensive, will never depreciate into my budget range
4. Do you honestly believe that it can happen?
not unless I hit the lottery or come into an inheritance. I don't buy lottery tickets and I have no rich relatives.

But it's really not too bad even if I just keep what I have and develop it further which is what I'm doing. I have a '95 Supra turbo - BPU (= basic performance upgrades, so it dyno'd 435rwhp/455rwtq) and it even made it on somebody's list! :) It is an awesome vehicle, even more so than most people will ever know unless you've driven it a lot on various race tracks. I do that a few times a year.

1. Don't laugh, Volvo TGB 13 6x6

2. one of the best off roaders made, plus very easy to modify.

3. Slowly saveing up, maybe in two years

4. Yes only need about 20k to start off.

Aston Martin up and coming V8 Vantage
http://www.astonmartin.com/thecars/v8vantage
Why? Just look at it... it's beautiful and an Aston
Close... oh no, no way near but then again its only a matter of time give me 20 years or so and no kids and i'll make it. Failing that i'll wait till i'm just about to die and then sell my house and there you go, live the last year in that.

Cycler 12-22-2004 07:19 AM

1. What is your dream car? Ducati 998 Yellow
2. Why? It is a Ferrari on two wheel and, is inherently cool.
3. How close are you to owning your dream car? Well I have an 04 Yamaha R1 in red the Ducs were just too hard to find and too damn expensive in my area.
4. Do you honestly believe that it can happen? Yes just what I want to sacrifice to get it right now I am pretty happy with what I have.

My four wheel dream car:
1. What is your dream car? 2001 Lexus IS 300 Yellow again please
2. Why? Rear wheel drive, five speed, four door straight six engine.
3. How close are you to owning your dream car? This one is on down the road no time frame the old 92 Accord is doing fine so no strong plans.
4. Do you honestly believe that it can happen? Yes just what I want to sacrifice to get it right now I am pretty happy with what I have.

Dream Truck:
1. What is your dream car? 1982 Toyota 4x4 Guess which color
2. Why? Cult following, solid front axel, leaf spring all around, bullet proof construction, almost unlimited modification potential..
3. How close are you to owning your dream car? Got it it was my first vehicle and I still have it. About 180K on the ticker.
4. Do you honestly believe that it can happen? Yes as far as the modication aspects go. I need a transmission and a lift along with a flat bed and she'll last way into the future. Right now she just works her ass off hauling my lawn mowing supplies.

I own a dream car. It's a fucking nightmare.

omega2K4 12-23-2004 10:58 PM

My dream car is a 05 Porsche Carrera GT. I'd get one, but $450,000 is fucking rediculous. The car I got now is what I'm gonna drive till I die, my #4 or #5 pick (05 M-B E55 AMG).

The longer I'm married, the further away my dream car gets! I suppose by the time I'm fifty and the kids are gone, I'll get what I want. Problem is, I love so many cars, I COULD NEVER CHOOSE! Which is the problem I'm having now, I can't even decide on a $25K car! There are just too many good choices!

1. Dream Car? 2002 Trans Am WS6
2. Why? Because they're fast, tweakable, good ol' american muscle
3. How close am I? a year or two, I have another vehicle to purchase first later this year before I get my dream car.
4. Do you honestly believe that it can happen? Yes, because my dream isn't so hard to fetch (costs less than most ferrari's, lambo's, bmw's, porsche's, GT500's, etc etc)

1. Maserati Quattroporte
2. Well it mixes the right amount of sport with luxury that blows away even the S class
3. Hmm well maybe after Im done with college ~ 6-8 years
4. Sure why not, they go for around 100k and I've invested wisely

MageB420666 01-09-2005 07:03 PM

1. McLaren F1
2. Cause if I'm gonna dream I may as well dream big.
3. Gonna get it if I win the lottery, I mean the 100+ million powerball, not the little scratch offs.
4. I think my chances have gone from "slim to none" to "an icecube's chances in hell".

Hell I WISH she wanted a minivan. Smoother ride, better gas mileage, cheaper, and they kick ass on road trips. But she doesn't like the stigma.
